Oh yes, I have heard about that! So the soil is too healthy for dandelions! I usually get one or two plants growing really big and a lot of leaves which I use in my cooking, but rarely do I see flowers and even rarer are big patches of them growing. I always wanted to make dandelion root coffee/tea, but as I said, there are too few plants growing and I will much rather use the leaves!
They only come when the earth is bad. They regenerate it.
I hope you manage one day to make that. I haven't tried the coffee from the roots yet. Let’s see if I have enough. You know what you could do. Gather the seeds like you do and put them in pots. Compact the soil a bit. Make sure the nitrogen is low and they should be growing. Worth trying.
Treat it like a veggie plant and grow in pots or raised beds. Hahaha !LOL
My compost is very high in nitrogen, so that might be the reason why they are not really growing! There is a space in the garden with really bad soil and where in the past many many dandelions grew. I might try this patch again! They might even return this year. Will keep an eye on it.
Dandelions fix nitrogen deficiency and loosen the soil.
Maybe they return in that patch. Would be cool. Keep me posted.
Here they are at the end of flowering, luckily a few new ones did pop up. 🌼🌼
I see so many single dandelion plants in the garden, I am looking forward to see if they make some flowers soon, or after the winter. Will keep you posted.
I have a slug and snail problem (or a lack of duck problem!). So they target the yummy dandelion flowers. The one plant had three beautiful flowers soon to bloom, but I see two of them are already eaten. Sad day! Alas, I still have the many nice leaves.
Aawww that is a shame… better get some ducks hahaha 🤣
Good you still have some leaves.
I have counted at least six or seven big dandelion plants growing in pathways, but sad to say that the bugs are getting most of the flowers. I will be making some spinach and dandelion leaf soup soon for the cold and wet weather!
