Minimalist Phone|| A Discovery.

in The MINIMALIST11 months ago (edited)

Minimalists are known for judicious and optimal use of their time and space. They are said to always be on track, do what they ought to do because somehow, they have trained themselves to be focused. But what about the unavoidable distractions in the world today?

I cannot count the amount of times I've mindlessly spent hours on unnecessary apps when I indeed had a truckload of tasks to accomplish. I saw a meme yesterday where this young man had so much to accomplish but rather, all he did was eat, sleep, press his phone and sleep again. All I could say was "that has definitely been me these past few weeks".

The main reason (as I came to discover) behind this lollygagging and consequently 'laziness' is my mobile device. I do not know if this applies to only me but that device is terribly distracting. I pick up my phone with an aim "okay Wongi, we're checking out the effects of dobutamine" and the next minute, I'm scrolling through YouTube shorts. Thirty minutes after realising what the fluff I'm doing, time is already far spent and I have to move to another task. This leaves me with unaccomplished online tasks and a ton of other offline tasks that I haven't even started.

During one of my random and unproductive YouTube shorts spree, I came across the "minimalist app" as an ad and I said to myself 'you can let this distract you' so I went for it. Did a little background check to actually see what the app is all about and I must say that I think I found the answers to my distraction!

The minimalist app isn't an app where you go to get tips about minimalist lifestyle or any other thing you may be thinking of. It's an app that helps you practise minimism through your phone. How? Let me briefly take you through the features of the app.

Minimal App Drawer.

I do not know how many people have apps scattered all over their phones. I don't know about you but whenever I see an app icon, I would want to check it out. "Oh, there is Netflix, let me check it out". And another phase of distraction commences.

The app helps to clear the clutter. A super star once told me that "out of sight is out of mind". If the app icons are not there, one doesn't get to click on them randomly. This way, you are specific about which app you want to go to. All you have to do is just search and bingo.

However, the app is best for people who actually know the names of the app that they use. If you do not know the name of the apps you use then there may be a little problem.

Minimalist Home Screen To Help You Focus.

My home screen has become one of my favourite things to look at. It has just a few features and not so much is going on there. This is in contrast to my previous home screen that had a whole lot going on.

The home screen contains the time, day in progress and a few shortcut icons which are very customizable (you can either add or subtract to your taste).

Tasks.

Amongst the wonderful features of the app is the bold and visible 'task' shortcut.

This helps to keep track of your daily tasks. You can type in whatever tasks you have for the day and once you're done, you could either mark as done or cross it off entirely.

Fully Customizable.

This is where the beauty of the app lies. You can customise a few things which include; widgets, fonts(size and style), colours, icons, etc.

The app comes with a default black colour which I love so much. If you're not a fan of black then there are other 'cool' colours to choose from. These colours are the type that minimalists like or prefer most times.

I think it is a cool all-in app for minimalists and the fact that someone out there actually sat down to create an app with minimalists in mind is just so beautiful.

To many of us, our mobile devices are our treasures and many of us have a whole life in there (not to sound cheesy or anything). We do various things using our phones on a daily basis and as such, many of us cannot go a day without it.

This app goes a long way in reducing unproductive screen time. Many people complain of how many unproductive hours they spent on their phones. I've made use of the app for just a day and my screen time has reduced significantly.

To prevent any further spoilers, I will stop my review here. However, to avoid wasting your time I would like to say that the app is for those who want to take back charge of their mobile device, save time and ultimately regain optimum focus when using their phones. If you do not fall into this category, then the app may not be of so much assistance to you. I loved the app at first encounter and I hope you do too.
