If I am being honest, I've never really thought about minimalism and spirituality acting together but thinking about it now, I'll say spirituality is a minimalistic practice in more ways than I can even think of right now. Minimalism is living free and spirituality is living deep, both come together to form a beautiful lifestyle.
Whether we believe in it or not, this world isn't ours, we would all leave someday, and so, leading a life with little or no regret is what we should hope for. For me, thinking back to how I've been living my life spiritually, minimalistic practices has always been there.
Someone had once told me that, "being a minimalist means being intentional about everything", and that includes my spiritual life. I think everything that is good are achieved by people who are intentional in gaining them. Over time, I've stopped thinking my spiritual life will improve on it's own.
Developing habits that will help me be more intentional in having a healthy spiritual life has led me right into minimalism than I would have if just for my physical comfortability. It's amazing what more minimalism can do for one who practices it, I'm not the best at it but I've seen good improvements doing the little I do.
The act of clearing my mind off things that God has promised to take care of, helps to strengthen my spirit. I call it decluttering my spirit to live deep and free as expected of me. While this may not be easy to do as said, I get intentional in some minimalistic ways.
The simple act of reducing distractions, that is the things I know are in my way to grow my spiritual life. Associating myself with people who think alike in growing spiritually, I've learned that doing this is a good boost and it works.
Making it a must to have the house decluttered to the minimum before worship time opens my spirit to receive the blessings that comes with it. Appreciating the little things of life, my space and family also helps my spiritual life.
One time, I had the opportunity to attend a program organized by women where the more experienced women taught on how to live a minimalistic life and be in the best condition as a Christian. They opened my eyes to habits that would not only help free my physical being to comfortability but will also boost my spirit.
I believe I'll do even better with how I lead my spiritual life if I keep practicing a lifestyle that frees me of clutters, too much and less attention to things that don't matter or add any value to me.
It isn't as easy as it sounds but the freedom that comes with doing it, I've experienced it and will continue to appreciate the fact that it isn't impossible to keep up with. I'll stop here, do share what you think about minimalism and spirituality in the comment section.
