Greetings!
I smiled when I came across this contest because every time I come to this community to read or sit down to draft a post about minimalism, I feel a laughable sensation. The truth is, I like a simple life, I spend cautiously, and I give away clothes I'm not using. However, there is a particular set of clothes that always makes me laugh at my claim to be a minimalist person. My mind would question, "Do you know that your claim of being a minimalist is fake? If not, why are you still keeping this set of clothes?" That thought bothers me a lot, but my mind also has a way of giving it a dear ear.
As I've mentioned here countless times, I'm a church person, a committed usher in my church, and we use different colors of shirts and trousers as our dress code on various Sundays. I don't have all the outfits complete, but I have one particular shirt in triplicate: a pink shirt.
I have three of them, and although my mind always tells me to give away one or two because sometimes I don't use all of them before the year runs out, I shut down that thought and keep them, because somehow, I see them serving different purposes.
The reasons I've been keeping them are as follows:
- The first one:
The first one was a gift from someone in the church many years ago. It's an original wear, and the texture is still glittering to this day. One holiday, I wore it home, and a friend complimented me on wearing such an expensive shirt. I was surprised because I didn't know the price. He showed me a similar shirt in different colors that he bought for N16,000, and I was shocked. I didn't know I had been wearing such an expensive piece of clothing all along. I wear this to church on days we have we are using black trousers. I don't like wearing it on a different colour of trouser.
- The second one:
The second one was also a gift. It was given to me two years ago, brand new and still in its packaging. It was gifted to me by the CEO at my former workplace, who attends the same church when he visits the city. One day, he saw me at church without a tie and the following Sunday, he bought me a pink shirt, a navy blue trouser, and a black bold tie. The funny thing is, I intentionally didn't wear a tie that day because I needed some neck freedom, which my ushering unit leaders questioned.
This particular one, I like to wear it on the navy blue trouser it came with. I feel I'm wrong to wear it on a trouser that's not the navy blue with came with it.
- The third one:
The third one was yet another gift. It was given to me two years ago also, and I don't know why people keep gifting me pink shirts. Maybe I have a lady's look that I haven't noticed. Lol.
This is the simplest of them all, and it's the pink shirt I like to wear casually. I don't wear it often, but once in a while after I've ironed it and it looks sparkling. I don't wear it to church. No.
So I always think, if I give away one, the other ones won't be able to fill the gap of the given away one.
Sigh!
Don't blame me.
Thanks for reading.
