Greetings, happy start to the week, with another great MUSICAL MONDAY, the wonderful initiative created by @eugelys, ideal for sharing everything that we are passionate about about the most beautiful art that exists: Music.
All of those of us who lived our adolescence in the 80s, and are Spanish speaking, I am almost 100% sure that at some point we heard about the Spanish band BARON ROJO, the rock group with the longest history of Spain. Obviously, I am no exception, I heard and sang their songs hundreds of times, I really LOVED them, and today, more than 40 years after that time, I still like them, I still listen to them and I still experience that emotion from so many decades ago.
I met them thanks to a cassette that someone lent my brother, and I clearly remember that we got into the truck that dad had at that time, a beautiful blue Lariat, to listen to them. That cassette not only had songs by Barón Rojo, but also by Obus, another Spanish band, and that Saturday in 1983, because I clearly remember that it was a Saturday, it was super cool because we listened to that cassette over and over again. There we discovered the magic of BARON ROJO, and although my brother, after a few years, left rock behind, I did not.
BARON ROJO is not to be heard on any occasion, but at certain moments, those in which you need your energy to be filled with rock, because it is a heavy metal band; however, it has beautiful ballads and great songs, great musical quality as well as intelligent lyrics, which make it a delight to enjoy their music, With that said, let's look at my three songs today.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
I start with the song that gives the band its name, and this is the epic BARON ROJO. The reason that this song is the same name as the band is because precisely its members greatly admired, and wanted to pay tribute to, a historical figure: Manfred von Richthofen, a German fighter pilot, who fought in the First World War, and whose pseudonym was precisely BARON ROJO. I do not want to romanticize war, because no war is good, there is always death, misery, pain, violence and degradation behind it; but we must recognize that if what historical records say is true, this pilot must have been someone out of the ordinary, because even when he was shot down by enemy fire, he was buried with military honors... by his own enemies. Now, regarding the song, this one is also exceptional, even though it was released in 1981, on the band's first vinyl “Long Live Rock and Roll”. It starts with an incredible guitar riff, plus the lyrics, the voice, the drums... everything is great, I think it is the most famous song of this group. Here I share a video, where many allegorical images are presented to the letter, but first I leave you a photo of the original BARON ROJO.
I continue with another song, also one of the most famous of BARON ROJO, which is included on his 1983 album, “Metalmorfosis”, and is the exceptional: “You're always there”, one of the most beautiful rock ballads of the history. Although it seems that this song is about romantic love, it is something much more complex, because what it tries to reflect is the life, the experience of an artist on stage and his need to connect with his audience. It is a beautiful song, both in the melody and in the lyrics. Here I leave you the official audio, it is one of those songs that make your soul vibrate, I hope you like it.
And ending this epic Musical Monday, I have brought one of the least known songs from BARON ROJO, and although it is a love song, it is not a ballad. This is the beautiful “Mil años luz”, song of the year 1988, and the experimental album “No va a más”. I like it a lot, because of the beautiful lyrics, and because the melody is really excellent. Here I leave you the official audio of this unique love song.
