Hello everyone, happy start to the month and week, may this month of July 2024 give you a lot of health, a lot of music and a lot of joy. Since 1994, every first day of July of each year, International Reggae Day has been celebrated, which is super cool, because this musical genre is beautiful, vibrant, deep... nothing to do with the strange monstrosity called reggaeton (part of it was stolen of the name), which is nothing other than auditory pornography. And well, since yesterday was so important for music, today I decided to celebrate this anniversary, participating in initiative # 162 of Three Tune Tuesday, from my friend @ablaze. And for this edition I will share three songs from one of the best reggae bands in South America, it is the Argentine band: LOS PERICOS.
I meet the reggae thanks to a boyfriend I had in my youth, who in addition to introducing me to reggae through Bob Marley, UB40, Maxi Priest, Manu Chao and obviously, Los Pericos, also taught me how to play pool, (he worked in his family's business, selling and installing pool tables), and well, in addition to my love for rock and pop, my love for reggae was also added. In my country, a lot of reggae was already heard at the end of the 80s and throughout the 90s, but I discovered it in 89, and I loved it. Then inevitably I met Los Pericos, who made reggae in my language, in Spanish, and they were GREAT, with immense musical quality, and an unmistakable and unique voice, like that of Bahiano, who is no longer in the group. Their songs also began to be part of the sound track of my life. That being said, let's look at my #ttt songs today.
Ahora vamos con mis canciones / Now let's go with my songs
My first song today is Waitin’, which is on the album “Big Yuyo”, from 1992. This is one of the few songs in English by Los Pericos. I really like its cadence and obviously the melody, which is 100% reggae, although the lyrics, to be honest, are nothing to write home about. It's a song that makes me travel back in time, almost transporting me to that year. Here I share the official video, enjoy it.
I continue with a great song. This is from 1994, and it is on the album “Pampas Reggae”, and it is called “Runaway”, and even with that title in English, it is a song that is in Spanish. It is a somewhat slower melody, but very beautiful, with lyrics full of love and tenderness. This song used to be sung to me by that old boyfriend I already told you about. Here, like the previous one, the main voice is from Bahiano, who undoubtedly left his personal stamp on each song. I share the audio of this beauty, and also a video of a live performance that the band did, (now without Bahiano), with the vocalist who replaced him, Juanchi Bailerón.
And to finish my #ttt today in honor of Reggae, celebrating with Los Pericos, I bring you the beautiful “Pupilas Lejanas”, a song from the album “Mystic Love”, from 1997. This is a sad, but beautiful song, that gives us that feeling of not closing with some situation from the past. I heard this melody a lot and I still hear it, because it is of great quality. Here I share the original official video, where Bahiano does the main vocals.
Este ha sido mi aporte para esta genial iniciativa del amigo @ablaze en su edición número 162, celebrando el Día Internacional del Reggae, celebrando y compartiendo con todos ustedes tres canciones de LOS PERICOS
This has been my contribution to this great initiative by my friend @ablaze in its 162nd edition, celebrating International Reggae Day, celebrating and sharing with all of you three songs by LOS PERICOS
