Für Elise was written in 1810 for Therese Malfatti, whom Beethoven was considering marrying at that time. Therese's father opposed this marriage, and Therese married Baron Von Drosdick in 1816. In a letter to Therese in May 1810, Beethoven emphasizes the piece "Für Elise".
