Hi there, my friends. 👽 This week my #ttt post promotes Tom Waits - although he is a well-known established artist in his own right and does not need any promotion, I believe. But since it is #TreeTuneTuesday and we share our fave tracks and artists... so, count it with a punch of ad. If you're a pop girl (or boy), skip this blog as soon as possible. 🤡
Tom Waits - God's away on business
The video was directed by Jesse Dylan. The name tells me nothing, so I suspect it is mostly Mister Tom to blame for all the crazyness and creative stuff in the video (popped up realy from the nowhere!). I stumbled upon the clip occasionally, thanks to YouTube; by that time I already had long been deeply in love with the song. It reflects Waits's "bitter" opinion on the life and human society's constitution (as well as mine). Do check the song's lyrics and let me drop here a few quotes:
Goddamn there's always such a big temptation
To be good, to be good
I narrow my eyes like a coin slot baby
Who are the ones that we kept in charge?
Killers, thieves, and lawyers
Tom Waits - I Don't Wanna Grow Up
The video was directed by Jim Jarmusch (I guess you find this name familiar). The video is crazy enough, but I am not sure who exactly to blame for it - maybe not director, but Mister Waits himself! Among the visuals are Tom f###ing around in a weird outfit, drinking, smoking, riding a tiny baby bike, playing toy guitar under the table - all this makes a perfect illustration to the song's title and message.
Frankly speaking, 'Bone Machine' isnt my fave album in Waits discography, maybe quite the opposite 😎 but this song is nice and maybe the most accessible one on said LP; I added it to my selection solely because of this gorgeous video clip.
Tom Waits - Telephone Call From Istanbul
Istanbul is fantastic metropolis, my dream city to go to (probably will never happen in this damn soreful life). When I first heard this song back in 1995, something clicked and I was hooked up momentarily. The 'Franks Wild Years' where it comes from is my fave album in Waits discography (among with few others). But according to #ttt challenge I could not present more than three songs, so... limitations are useful as they always imply some work should be done to cut off the unnecessary and keep the most important part. Enjoy the live version of the song - which is even more powerful and energy-driven than the studio one.
Hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze.
