Monument in tribute to Carlos Gardel in Bogota

Hello Hivers and music lovers!

I got the inspiration for the songs I'm sharing this Tuesday for #threetunetuesday while taking a short walk with my husband last Saturday in Bogotá to go to have lunch.

On our way, we stumbled upon a nice little park. Out of curiosity we decided to explore it a bit.

In the park, we found to our surprise there was a bust in tribute to Carlos Gardel, the famous singer, composer and actor who made tango known worldwide.

Some say that Gardel was born in France in 1890, others say he was born in Uruguay, but what is certain is that he grew up in Argentina where he developed his artistic career. His songs transcended in time and Gardel with his unique voice became a musical idol in Latin America, especially in Argentina and Uruguay. And also in Colombia where he died tragically in a plane crash in 1935. More info about the life of Carlos Gardel here.

So standing in front of the small monument to Gardel, I thought that his music and tango would be my choice for this musical tuesday in Hive🎵. So here we go.

But before we go to the songs, I remind you that #threetunetuesday is a musical initiative started by @ablaze. For more info take a look at @ablaze's post with his recommendation for last week., the #178.This one is the #179. And give him some support ;)

Tune 1 - Por Una Cabeza - Carlos Gardel

The first tango I have chosen for this little tribute to Carlos Gardel is Por Una Cabeza. This popular tango was composed by Gardel for one of his movies, Tango Bar. The lyrics are by Alfredo Le Pera.

And maybe you have never heard Gardel's version, but depending on your age;) you might remember this famous movie scene where Al Pacino dances Tango with the actress Gabrielle Anwar in the movie Scent of a Woman. It is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. Maybe because I have always wanted to learn how to dance tango.

“No mistakes in the tango, darling, not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, get all tangled up, just tango on.” - Al Pacino - (Scent of a Woman)

Do you remember it?

Tune 2 - Volver by Paola Hermosín - Volver by Carlos Gardel

One of Gardel's songs that I have always liked and grew up listening to is Volver. This tango was composed by Carlos Gardel and its lyrics are by Alfredo Le Pera. The song was one of the songs performed by Gardel in the musical movie El Día Que Me Quieras in the 30s, which also gives its name to another of his famous songs.

While looking for a video for the post I came across with this performance by a girl named Paola Hermosín. She has versions of many of Gardel's songs and has a beautiful voice, so it's a nice discover.

And here is Carlos Gardel's original.

Tune 3 - El Día Que Me Quieras - Diego El Cigala

And the third song, I already mentioned it, is El Día Que Me Quieras. This song has been covered countless times. One of the most famous is the one by Luis Miguel, but when I was looking for it, I came across another one, not so well known but masterful performed by the singer Diego El Cigala accompanied on guitar by the Argentine musician Juanjo Dominguez.

You can listen to Gardel's original version here.

Do you like Tango? Have you heard these songs before? Which one is your favorite? Tell me in the comments.

Thank you very much for reading!

Just tango Super Eli 💙
How tragic a place crash took his life. Loved these tunes though, and wishing you a happy Halloween!

Good afternoon dear friend @coquicoin
What a beautiful tribute to this great musician, even though he was born in Uruguay
His music transcended borders and has remained current despite so much time having passed
Beautiful songs you chose
Have a lovely afternoon

I heard about Por Una Cabeza only, but I didn't know the artist behind it, so thanks for sharing details about Gardel!

But, now that I heard all of them (thanks again 🙏), I like Volver too! That cover by Paola Hermosín sounds great!

Whoa, a beautiful pieces. The voice is what you often heard during 90s, lioe it has that touch. It's so beautiful, aside from it's a dance song for Tango, I feel like they are good as a lullabies songs too. Am I the only one who think thay way? I'm not familiar with these pieces, I am happy I heard them here 🤩💃
