Apples! That's one thing I miss living here, locally-grown apples! We don't have bears, or mountain lions for that matter, either, which may be a good thing...lol! We do have lots of wild pigs, though, and man can some of them get big! Gorgeous photos, @silvertop! Enjoy those beautiful, juicy apples! π π π
Iβm sure those wild pigs can be very dangerous!π³
I wonder why you donβt see more apple trees on your island, iβm sure they would grow well!ππ
Indeed, they certainly can, especially a momma pig with babies! Luckily they tend to run away when people approach, but cornering them, especially the big ones, is a very bad idea! The problem with apple trees, and many fruit trees from the temperate mainland, is that they need cold in winter, which we don't have. There are apples growing up on the higher mountains, but the fruit tends to be quite small. There are also a few low or no-chill varieties that are becoming known, but we don't have any yet. We have a few no-chill peach trees, but we haven't seen any fruit yet. Every place has its pros and cons, even here...lol! π π π β¨ π€
Very interesting I had no idea that fruit trees needed cold winters!
I always knew that pine tree seeds needed to "stratify" as they call it, with a cold winter...
Yep, most temperate plants require cold to be able to go through their reproductive cycle successfully. Some even need it to survive. Yes, stratification is necessary for the seeds of many temperate plants to germinate. π π π β¨ π€
As am I, amigo, and I love sharing useful information that helps people learn too! π π π β¨ π€
