Safety in Numbers!😇
“Silbertop, I light dis red light, not safe in da Mountains Man!” 🐸
“Little frog, you can come down from that old truck, it’s OK!” 😇
PEPE was hiking along with Silvertop today, when one of his webbed feet stepped into a fresh, warm, pile, of Black Bear “Scat”! 😳
“Ohhh….. PEPE….. go wash your feet in the pond!” 🙄
“How many piles Liz?”………………….
“I see four large piles honey, it looks like they are gorging on the apples already!”🥰
At the start of our trailhead, there is an Apple orchard, this is always a favorite “fast food” of the local Bear population!😊
Yep…… it’s time to hike in numbers, the Bears are filling up on food for Winter!
Last year, right about this time of year, we had a large Bear cross right in front of us!😮
Silvertop wasn’t sure if this Bear would backtrack, so we froze in place waiting to see what happened!😳
Jan, our friend said………..
“Silvertop, I’ll go first, and see what happens!”🤔
Now, Silvertop has always said that he could run faster than the two Ladies, but I don’t want anyone to take any chances!😇
“All three of us will go together, and if the Bear comes out of the woods, everyone stand still, and we will SLOWLY back away!”😳
Now I have read some contradicting things to do when encountering a black bear …..
One website says talk softly to the bear and slowly back away .
Another website says back away slowly, but make as much noise as humanly possible!
Many people carry bells, but I talked to a person that was a forest Ranger and they referred to these as “dinner bells!”
Some bears get very inquisitive and will come towards you, trying to figure out what is making the bell sound!😬
“PEPE, NO SQUEALING, if we spot a Bear, we will try slowly backing away!”😇
“Silbertop, Lady friend say, time to go see “Big Pond” you call Ocean, no Bears!”🐸
“Liz, PEPE is definitely a “City” frog Lol!”🤣
