This Christmas, my wife surprised me with a gift of a trip to Whidbey Island! This was one of her gifts to me.
She also gave me a Theo Organic Nutcracker Brittle bar and Austrian Mozart candy.
So our trip started on a rainy day and it was not looking too good, but as soon as we pulled up to a ferry terminal in Mukilteo the rain stopped and things started to really improve weather wise!
We came in just as a ferry departed. We got into Lane One, and after a short wait, another ferry arrived. We waited for it to unload, and it was our turn to drive into a ferry.
I love the view of the Puget Sound, and it looks great from the ferry.
It takes about fifteen minutes to cross from Mukilteo to Whidbey Island
On our way to Whidbey Island, we saw another ferry going back to Mukilteo:
Every time we cross, I keep watching for Orca and dolphins once we saw a dolphin, but we are yet to see an Orca.
Once we arrived at Whidbey Island, we drove straight to Langley. We were quite hungry, so we went to our favorite place to eat at Langley: Saltwater Fish House & Oyster Bar.
It is a small but very popular place, so we had to wait even for a place at a bar.
There, I ordered a Hot Toddy and we ordered salad, some really nice fresh oysters and our favorite dish to share their special house seafood pasta:
Once we were done with our lunch, we walked around town getting some fresh air and stopping by our favorite chocolate truffles place on the island: Sweet Monas.
We picked up an assortment of truffles and went to check into Inn at Langley.
There, we had a bottle of white wine and a Welcome Back message waiting for us.
It was a great start for our one night gateway.
To be continued in my next post... next year in 2025!
