I've been looking forward to today with tremendous excitement for a while.
Not lazy days spent by the pool; instead, thoughts of Austria are usually associated with thrilling hikes and outdoor experiences.
With today's scorching 32-degree temperature, however, I opted for a more gentle exploration – a hike around the enchanting Lake Etrachsee.
From our starting point, several enticing trails beckoned, but for our first hiking day, we preferred a leisurely pace.
The shortest route it was! And what a reward awaited.
The lake, nestled amidst towering mountains, was a serene oasis of natural beauty.
Its tranquil waters mirrored the sky like a magical painting, a scene straight out of a travel brochure.
As I wandered along the path, a symphony of nature unfolded.
Graceful wild horses grazed peacefully, while colorful butterflies danced in the warm air.
A striking bald sapling, adorned with vibrant purple hues, stood out against the lush green backdrop.
The trail wasn't always smooth sailing; rocky terrain and potholes added a touch of adventure, making my sturdy hiking boots indispensable.
A reminder: hiking in the Austrian mountains demands preparation.
Sturdy footwear, ample water, a reliable map, and weather awareness are essential.
Fortunately, today's clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds demanded no such concerns.
Our hike culminated at the charming Forellenstation, a cozy hut offering simple yet satisfying refreshments.
I had ice-cold water to soothe my thirst, but the menu's appeal was too strong.
I couldn't help but indulge in the "Mohr im Hemd," a rich chocolate cake with nuts, ice cream, whipped cream, and hot chocolate sauce.
Feeling revitalized, we started our journey back.
A sudden fright jolted us as we encountered a lifeless snake, likely a victim of passing traffic.
While I couldn't appreciate its beauty firsthand, it was undoubtedly a creature of elegance.
