Work was busy today even with a couple of ‘no shows’. I had four patients with the new Medicare advantage plan, so it was my maiden voyage into that today. I’m hoping to get a couple of things done prior to opening tomorrow. Fingers crossed! 🤞
Turkey Tail - no, not the tail of a turkey, but a ‘shroom, of course! It grows prolifically here in the Pacific Northwest forests. A few years ago, I watched a documentary called ‘Fantastic Fungi’ which I think you can still view on YouTube. One of the many ‘shrooms they talked about was Turkey Tail.
It’s highly recognizable by its fan shape and colorful rings.
It grows on deadwood and has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. ChatGBT says this additional information:

I’ve found extraordinary colorful versions to some that even appear washed out.

to foraging for your own, or better yet, check and see if your favorite mail order or local pharmacy have it in supplement form. At least that way, you know it’s the real deal!

This is the second example of the hairy-stringy fungus we’ve seen this year. In all the years I’ve been hiking, I’ve not noticed it before. Either it’s new to the area or it’s been dormant and the conditions were just right for it to live. I’ll have to see what I can dig up on it.
