A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.
Naples, from wherever you look, reminds you that it is a city of art and culture. We are in a popular area just outside the Spanish neighborhoods and the sky is blue summer and a small trail of condensation on the dome breaks the color uniformity.
As soon as I enter Piazza Dante I see this building that seems to emanate the music of Mozart’s Lacrimosa as soon as you observe it. Nooo I wasn’t hearing it on YouTube in the earphones, which I usually wear. It came from the church of Saints Domenico Soriano and Nunzio Surplizio. Taste to dispel doubt are not the saints that can be seen on the simple but wonderful exterior. Outside are carved Saint Dominic de Guzman and Saint Thomas Aquinas.
The church also has a bell tower and next to it a monastery completed the complex built thanks to the famous and noble family of Ruffo authors of numerous pious works for our city.
In the left transept there is a wonder canvas of the master Luca Giordano undisputed and prolific talent of the city who delighted with his colorful paintings almost every church in the city.
On the altar there are the famous polychromatic marbles by Cosimo Fanzago, even if in this church his hand is everywhere because the baroque project of the church is his work.
All the vaults of the church are decorated with a dense network of frescoes and stucco sculptures of inestimable workmanship and finely restored with great sagacity.
The authors of the other works of art present in the chapels are less known artists who lived in Naples but who were no less famous with the other more noble of 1600 Neapolitan.
The church has numerous infiltrations of water and cracks due to the various earthquakes to which it has resisted even if some works have been lost forever because of a fungus present on the walls on which it is absolutely forbidden to put hand for its dangerousness. But it is a threat to things not to people.
When I left the church I took another photo at a corner of Piazza Dante that I had never taken before. There is no doubt that, culturally and architecturally, Piazza Dante is one of the most beautiful squares in the world, even if it is full of commercial activities that often obscure its splendor. This is Naples! City where countless contradictions coexist peacefully.
Actually, my half was different today. The church of Regina Coeli on the upper decumanus that I then reached passing on the lane of connection with the major decumanus or the characteristic and even legendary via Atri.
We said that the goal of our tour that accompanies my iamalivechallenge 387 was Regina Coeli but I found it barred by a construction site.
Canceled, but, not bad! There are hundreds more wonders that the real city of Naples still offers. We will not be left without themes for our challenge.
I wanted to walk to Piazza Garibaldi but given the very high and unbearable humidity and the strong sun rays that beat at noon I reached the circumvesuviana in Metro 1.
Lately, as you may have noticed from the desert in the photos, the streets were not very crowded with tourists. Here you are revealed where they were focused in this early summer. They are all directed to Sorrento, a seaside destination and a tourist jewel on a coast rich in tourist destinations.
The train that I had to take had been suppressed because destined to these tourists in substitution to theirs that had been broken down. Okay, hospitality is our strong point, and by dealing with it, I get the first bus that goes near my house. After all, they come from countries that are exemplary hosts, namely the UK, Germany and Sweden.
Finally, I would like to thank all my friends from the tribe of #Alive and all the new friends who happened between the lines of my stories for reading my thoughts and see you at the next #actifit report.
