My Sunday started with a normal family routine of shopping! 🤨 Boring!
But I suppose that comes with the job of being a father and grandfather as well. I have to accept this and get on with life.
I was well aware that the weather is about to change from dry and settled to very wet again. With shorter days, it becomes harder to fit in a cycle ride after the daily routine. I conceded that I would have to cycle at around sunset and use my lights.
So off I went. This time, I selected a route that I use in winter a lot as it's all on hard surfaces or well drained sandy tracks. Worth Way, an old train route connecting Crawley to East Grinstead.
The sun was getting low now as I stopped at one of the high points along the route. It's time to get the lights out!
Parts of this track are very straight for over a mile, it's difficult to see the next bend in this picture. I was glad I had a bright light in my bag. I use a 1200 lumen double LED headlight as well as a flashing one up front and just a rear red flashing lamp on the back. Essential in the dark on an unlit track like this one.
Time to turn around now at a distance of 8 miles. Believe me when I say that it was quite dark at this point. My mobile phone camera is very good at shots in the dark, and make it look like full daylight!
I do enjoy riding anytime of year. There's something very special about a ride in late autumn, when the trees are dumping their leaves on the ground in such amounts that it's like a carpet everywhere. The smell of decaying leaves and wood in the air. Just amazing!
