Hey dear actifitters and readers,
what a Sunday lies behind me 😎
We went to Mannheim to watch the volleyball cup finals at SAP Arena.
We started at ten with a two hour drive to the venue. Everything worked fine and no lorries slowed the traffic down.
We arrived perfect in time 😎
Many people were queuing at the entrance. Luckily it took us only ten minutes to get in.
We had a look for our seats first. They were in the third row and almost perfect to watch the matches.
After done this we discovered the arena and went to the upper floors to take the picture to get the right impression of the scale of the hall.
We got something to eat to be prepared for two hopefully long matches. We really were hoping to see 10 sets in total. But we were disappointed. More later in the games section.
The first match was the women's Cup final. Potsdam playing Stuttgart.
We had our seats next to the Potsdam supporters. They supported the team with huge flags and many many drums.
At the end all the effort they made didn't pay out. It was a tremendous victory by Stuttgart. The showed a very aggressive match with many block points and many many hard hits.
The final result was 3:0 (25:14, 25:19, 25:15).
The trophy for the MVP went to the US girl Christel Rivers. She made strong 25 points for her team.
As the first match only took 75 minutes the break to the beginning was longer than expected.
We sent through the venue, had another drink and watched the Berlin fans. Recycling Volleys Berlin is the best German volleyball team. Many fans made the long trip to Mannheim to support the team.
Berlins club colour is orange and you don't have a chance to oversee the fans in the crowd. 😀
The men's match started at 16:15 pm after warm up and the team presentation with a decent light show.
The favorites made a very good job. Berlin started with their best starting six and Herrsching didn't have any chance in the first two sets.
The third set was much closer. Herrsching played much better and put more pressure on their opponents. In the middle of the set the had a three point lead.
And it became even worse for Berlin. Their Japanese libero Sato got injured and had to be treated by the physios.
At the end of third set Herrsching got unlucky. The made three mistakes at their servings in a row and Berlin made their points. Herrsching could defend the first match point. But the following serve hit the net and all the hope was gone. Congratulations to Berlin for a strong victory! At the end the score was 3:0 (25:14, 25:19, 25:23)
At the end in both matches the favourite teams did a great job and won their matches easily.
The winners ceremony had some nice light effect. The players got their medal and had to give some interviews to the fans.
After all we had a very exciting day in Mannhiem. Although we only saw six sets in total and not the ten sets we were hoping for. 😉
