The slave, Einar, noticed how Thorfinn moved when Snake tried to cut him. Einar realized that Thorfinn had been a warrior or had gone to war, so he started asking questions. "Have you been to war?" Einar asked. Thorfinn replied, "Yes."
"Have you killed?" Einar asked. Thorfinn answered, "Yes."
Einar asked, "How many?"
Thorfinn said he couldn't remember, explaining that he was only five years old when he first went to war. Einar then understood that when his village was burned down, Thorfinn might have been there, helping the Danes destroy it.
Thorfinn asked, "Do you hate me now, Einar?" Einar didn't respond.
Every time Thorfinn slept, he had nightmares. He often said the name "Askeladd" in his sleep. When Einar asked about it, Thorfinn answered that he couldn't remember his dreams.
Let's see what happens next.
