Hello and welcome to "Exploring Israel - Public Art" series. I enjoy finding and appreciating public art¹
Today I want to share with you public art I found while walking in my hometown Holon. It is located in a "Story Garden" Park in the southern part of the city.
It is located on a small, low grassy hillock in the center of the park and surrounded by a lot of beautiful greenery.
This work of art is called "The fish that didn't want to be fish". The story was written by Paul Kor and sculptured by Dorit Feldman.
The story is about a small fish that felt bored with his life. He complained to the ocean about it. The waves answers and turned him into a bird. After flying all day and getting tired, the fish wished to be a mouse, then elephant and a bear.
As a bear, the fish ate lots of honey that made him sick. He complained to the sky to be a fish again because it is always best to be yourself.
When imagining looking from above, the complete structure looks like an "S". It is about 6m in length and 1m in hight.
There are two, fish decorated blue stone in each semicircle.
The fish is hidden In each animal, try to find it.
The shape of a structure and the location of fish stones makes me think that the artist wanted to show the fish's journey, from fish form to fish form.
A very beautiful visual interpretation of the story with a valuable life lesson.
