Before getting into how to make it, you need to understand the characteristics or criteria of the coffee that you are going to brew. Each black coffee bean or powder has different criteria from each other, especially if they come from different regions. Some things you need to pay attention to include:
• Types of Black Coffee
Coffee beans grow from coffee trees. Well, if you understand a little about plants, of course you know that any plant will have its own types and varieties. Incidentally, in coffee plants, the types and varieties of coffee are factors that can determine the taste.
An example of the first type of coffee is Arabica, which is a favorite coffee for many people. The taste is slightly sour, but also slightly sweet.
Second, there is Robusta, whose plants are said to be strong against pests. The taste of Robusta coffee is known to be more bitter, so it is very suitable to be combined with cream, milk, and sugar.
Then, there is also Liberica coffee which is less commonly consumed than Arabica and Robusta. Liberica coffee is perfect for those who like a slightly bitter spice flavor.
• Roasting Process
After being separated from the coffee fruit, the coffee beans are immediately dried. Then, the coffee will go through a roasting process that tends to be the same. However, the results of the roasting may vary, depending on how long it is roasted, the temperature used, or other factors.
But, why is this important, even though it doesn't seem to have anything to do with how to enjoy coffee?
Well, all roasting techniques are done deliberately and structured to produce light, medium, medium-dark, and intense roasts.
• Coffee Liquid Texture Thickness (Body)
Brewed coffee will have different textures. If you're confused, try to imagine the difference in the thickness of the texture of tea and milk, of course they're different, right?
Although thick textured coffee cannot be achieved with just the usual method, you will still be able to distinguish it when drinking the coffee. Some of the body types we mean include: thin, light, and heavy.
• Aroma
As mentioned earlier, the type of coffee can produce different flavors. But, did you know that each type of coffee has a sub-type or variety? Later, the sub-type or variety will produce different aromas, such as fruits (citrus and apple), nuts, vanilla, or chocolate
• Flavors
Then, the coffee variety will also give you a unique coffee flavor. Although this flavor will not be dominant and cover the main flavor of the coffee, these flavors can be a touch that gives a different sensation to the coffee. Some examples are sweet, salty, sour, and mellow.
• Aftertaste
Aftertaste is also an important factor. However, unlike other characteristics, aftertaste is a sensation that you can find after sipping your coffee. Some aftertastes that you need to know are sweet, bitter, or sour.
