I had a déjà vu experience this past Sunday, and thinking about it today (Tuesday) really got me feeling high and wishing for the 'D-day' to come quickly.
After church service this last Sunday in the early hours of the afternoon, the weather was sharp, with moderate sunshine and a strong breeze that reminded me of the harmattan season. This got me thinking that maybe harmattan had arrived already since it's September.
As I was walking home, having just crossed the church gate, I was looking around for a bike to drive past so I could stop one and hop on. Then, a car from the church compound drove slowly across me, and inside, Boney M's "Mary's Boy Child" was playing softly. In that instant, I felt like I had gone back to the Christmas of two years ago because I was in the same city during that Christmas. Everything felt the same so suddenly, and then it vanished just as quickly, and I found myself back in the present.
I kept thinking, why was that song playing in that car at that moment? The coincidence felt too real. Even now, I’m still wondering why the man had that song playing in his car at that particular time because, all through the day, I felt like it was Christmas already.
When I got home, I added the song to my playlist and played it all day to fully embrace the Christmas vibe because such moments don't come often.
Come to think of it, I'm sure it's not only me whose heart is captured by Boney M's Christmas songs, especially "Mary's Boy Child," and who relates them to the Christmas season whenever they play. Christmas songs, especially this particular one, never get old or fade out; they always feel new whenever Christmas season comes around. There are usually other related songs released by different artists and groups, but none of them have ever matched these classic Christmas songs.
The encounter was on Sunday, and I played the song on repeat all through that Sunday after church, and again on Monday. By Tuesday afternoon, I surrendered—I got tired. Hehehe! My body recognized that it’s not really Christmas yet, and it would take a lot to keep that feeling alive.
Moreover, I heard that there are regions that start celebrating the Christmas season from September or so. I need to relocate to that part of the world.
Thanks!
