Hello @drinkslovers! I hope that the month of August is full of happy moments, great joy, prosperity and health, all of this in the Law of God. Currently, even though it is supposed to be the rainy season, it is very hot. The ambient temperature exceeds 35 °C, so it is necessary to be drinking refreshing drinks that keep me hydrated, and today I share with you a simple recipe that turned out to be a pleasant experiment.


Hola @drinkslovers! Espero que el mes de Agosto les sea pleno de momentos felices, de gran alegría, prosperidad y salud, todo esto en Ley de Dios. Actualmente, aún cuando se supone es temporada de lluvias, hay mucho calor. La temperatura ambiental supera los 35 °C, por lo que es necesario estar ingiriendo bebidas refrescantes que me mantengan hidratada, y hoy día les comparto una sencilla receta que resultó ser un agradable experimento.

On the weekend, on one of my outings to the backyard, I was able to see a beautiful guava, so I picked it from the tree, before the little birds pecked it. This tree has become one of the favorites of many birds on my lot, and as soon as there is a slightly ripe fruit, they eat it. I always leave part of the fruit on my trees, because I know that the birds and iguanas need food, but with the guavas I am the one who has to hurry, hahahaha. I kept it in my refrigerator and it spent two days thinking about what to do, because I can't make enough juice with just one guava, so I combined it with black tea, which I usually drink very cold and with lemon, but I didn't have any lemons or limes either; so I decided to experiment by combining both ingredients. With that said, let's get to the recipe!

El fin de semana, en una de mis salidas al solar, pude divisar una hermosa guayaba, así que la tomé del árbol, antes de que los pajaritos la picoteasen. Este árbol se ha vuelto uno de los preferidos de muchas aves en mi solar, y apenas hay una fruta algo madura, se la comen. Yo siempre dejo parte de fruta en mis árboles, porque sé que los pájaros e iguanas necesitan alimento, pero con las guayabas soy yo quien se debe apurar, jajajaja. La guardé en mi nevera y estuvo dos días pensando qué hacer, porque con una sola guayaba no puedo hacer suficiente jugo, así que la combiné con té negro, el cual suelo beber muy frío y con limón, pero tampoco tenía limones ni limas; así que decidí experimentar al combinar ambos ingredientes. Dicho esto, ¡vamos a la receta!

THE RECIPE / LA RECETA


Time, ingredients and equipment

  • Preparation time: It only takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, enough time to boil the water, infuse the tea, then the guava, strain and sweeten.

  • Quantities may vary according to each person's taste and availability.

  • Servings: Approximately 400 ml of tea.

  • 1 sachet of black tea (equivalent to approximately one teaspoon).

  • 400 ml boiling water.

  • 1 ripe guava.

  • Sweetener to taste (I used 1 tablespoon of white sugar).

  • Ice cubes to taste.

  • Pot, strainer, plate, knife, glasses, mash, remover, etc.

Tiempo, ingredientes y equipo

  • Tiempo de preparación: Sólo se requieren aproximadamente de 15 a 20 minutos, tiempo suficiente para hervir el agua, infusionar el té, luego la guayaba, colar y endulzar.

  • Las cantidades pueden variar de acuerdo al gusto y a la disponibilidad de cada quien.

  • Raciones: Aproximadamente 400 ml de té.

  • 1 sobre de té negro (equivalente a aproximadamente a una cucharadita).

  • 400 ml agua hirviendo.

  • 1 guayaba madura.

  • Endulzante al gusto, (yo utilicé 1 cucharada de azúcar blanca).

  • Cubitos de hielo al gusto.

  • Olla, colador, plato, cuchillo, vasos, macilla, removedor, etc.

THE PROCEDURE / EL PROCESO


This process is super simple, but to optimize preparation time, to boil the water. Meanwhile, the guava, which is previously washed and disinfected, is chopped into pieces. This is a yellow guava, which is very fragrant and has a distinctly citrus, pineapple-like flavor.

Este proceso es súper sencillo, pero para optimizar el tiempo de preparación, se coloca a hervir el agua. Mientras tanto, se pica en trozos la guayaba, la cual está previamente lavada y desinfectada. Esta es una guayaba amarilla, que es muy fragante y tiene un sabor marcadamente cítrico, parecido al de la piña.

Next, place the chopped fruit in a jar or glass and mash well with the masher. I used this pestle from a stainless steel mortar, which my mother-in-law recently gave me, but in the future I will not use it again to make drinks, as it is very heavy and there is a risk of splintering the glass or jar. The guava still has the skin and seeds. Reserve.

A continuación, colocar la fruta picada en un frasco o vaso y majar bien con la macilla. Yo utilicé esta macilla de un mortero de acero inoxidable, que recientemente me obsequió mi suegra, pero a futuro no lo utilizaré nuevamente para hacer las bebidas, pues es muy pesado y hay el riesgo de astillar el vaso o frasco. La guayaba tiene aún la piel y las semillas. Reservar.

Once the water reaches the boiling point, remove from the heat and place the tea bag to infuse for five minutes.

Una vez que el agua alcanza el punto de ebullición, retirar del fuego y colocar la bolsa de té a infusionar por cinco minutos.

After this time, pour the still hot tea on top of the mashed fruit. Sweeten, stir, cover and let it infuse for 5 to 10 more minutes, so that the liquid acquires the flavor and smell of ripe guava.

Transcurrido este tiempo, verter el té aún caliente encima de la fruta majada. Endulzar, remover, tapar y dejar infusionar de 5 a 10 minutos más, para que el líquido adquiera el sabor y el olor de la guayaba madura.

After this second period of time, strain into another glass with ice cubes. Stir and garnish with a slice of guava that I have previously reserved. And this BLACK TEA FLAVORED WITH RIPE GUAVA is ready. It is a delicious, fragrant, sweet and very refreshing drink. All I have left to say is: Cheers!

Ya trancurrido este segundo lapso de tiempo, colar en otro vaso con cubos de hielo. Remover y adornar con una rebanada de guayaba que previamente he reservado. There is no doubt that black tea with guava would be delicious and refreshing.

I am excited at imagining, going to pick a guava ripe from a tree, and have to fight iguanas and birds to get it. This sounds like paradise to a Canadian like me!

That sounds really tasty! I like guava, but they are difficult to find where I live. I have to battle the birds and squirrels for figs on my fig tree! I leave the ones at the top so I don't have to climb the ladder, but they're not happy with only those up high! 😂 Thanks for sharing your recipe, and I will keep it in mind when I find some guavas again! 🙂

How wonderful that you have a fig tree! It is a tree that I love, I even use the leaves to flavor papaya sweets and custard.

I had a very small fig tree, which was a gift from a friend of mine, but my land tortoises (morrocoyes) ate it. I think that if figs grow where you are, guavas can also grow. I think this variety of yellow guava is more resistant to low temperatures. Thanks for the visit. Hugs!

Que bueno resultó ese experimento, ese té aromatizado con guayaba luce realmente tentador y así tan friíto super refrescante para tanto calor, aquí donde estoy ahora sí que hace mucho.
