The choice of making a tank top came as the need for more sports outfits arose since I work out every day.
Here is a Do It Yourself (DIY) writeup with illustrative pictures to make a sporty Tank Top. Some people call it a vest, singlet or beater (I have no idea why it is called a ‘beater’) What is this called in your vicinity?
These are the instruments I used in making the pattern as well as the end product(a tank top).
- A ruler
- A curve ruler
- Chalk
- Writing materials (pencil, ballpoint pen, marker)
- Measuring Tape
- Scissors
- A scripted measurement of a size 14 lady.
I divided the shoulder by 2 and the other parts by four since the fabrics will be cut on a fold.
Then I subtracted one inch from the waist and bust line and then two inches from the hips to give it the fitted look.
I used the measurement above to mark and measure the patterns cut out bellow.
From shoulder to upper bust to bust point to under bust then to waist and finally to hip line.
Here is a stretchy fabric from both ends. Both ends of the fabric stretch(elastic), whether horizontally or vertically.
I pinned down the patterns to the fabric before cutting out.
I pinned the cut out back and front bodice together before taking them to the sewing machine to be joined.
