I've never actually gotten drunk from drinking beer. I have an exceptionally high tolerance for alcohol, but I still enjoy the taste. The last Scotch Ale I remember having was years ago, during an ice sculpture festival in McCall, Idaho.
The week after Christmas, my wife and I drove about 40 minutes away to go see a Christmas light display put on by the local businesses. We decided to stop in at White Dog Brewing Company for dinner. They had a decent selection of beers on tap. Sadly, they were out of the Vanilla Cream Ale.

I saw the Scotch Ale and figured I'd give it a chance since it had been a while, and I prefer to try locally brewed beer over the mainstream offerings that are offered on tap in most restaurants.
I liked that there wasn't any bitterness to the beer. You could smell some hints of coffee, but it didn't overpower the whole drink like you'd expect to get in a stout. It had some slight nuttiness to it but even that was well balanced. They advertise caramel and chocolate notes but I honestly didn't pick that up. Perhaps my palete isn't as refined. Regardles, it was very smooth and it was nice to sip it and just relax. (Source)
My wife isn't much of a Scotch Ale person, so she chose to pick up a few packs of their Blood Orange Hefeweizen. I picked up a single six pack of the Scotch Ale for myself.
If you ever come across this beer, I'd recommend giving it a try! Cheers!
