Take a walk in the district of La Boca in Buenos and you will discover what a fascinating place it is. The area around the famous pedestrian street, Caminito is quite touristic, but despite that fact, it has atmosphere. La Boca is so different from any where else I have ever seen. It was here in La Boca that the firs immigrants arrived and many settled here, making it known as an immigrant neighborhood. A poor neighborhood. Before going to this area, we were warned about it being a dangerous place. Don't walk the empty streets etc... When walking the streets you will notice quite an amount of street art depicting the history of La Boca.
La Boca's Volunteer Fire Department. This mural depicts a tradition of the immigrants - The «Bombaderos» who were the firefighters based on volunters. This neighborhood faced fires due to the material the houses are made of. The residents organized there own fire department.
Another mural that pays tribute to the Volunteer Fire Department. There might be more murals with these firefighters, that I just didn't see. Just look at these houses! They are so close.
This is found at the port. This is found at the port. It looks as if it is painted on tiles, but it's depicting the ships and dock workers. The La Boca port was once a busy port. The dock workers also lived here. When these workers built there houses, they would sometimes use little pieces of discarded metal. When looking at some of the old, colorful houses, it looks like they ran out of one color and continued with another.
When walking the streets of La Boca, you will see quite an amount of murals with messages of resistance. Messages of political protest. The street art scene in La Boca is varied.
