What a lesson I have learnt from this message. It is better not to promise than to make a promise which one might not be able to keep. This is great wisdom!

Many times as parents, we have made empty promises to our children. Sometimes, we do it without even intending to fulfill it. We just put out something for the children so that we could have them do what we want.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 (KJV) When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

I learned from Bro Eli Soriano answer in the video that it is bad. God, Himself does not want us to make vows before Him without fulfilling. We should desist from the act of deceiving our children with empty promises.

Proverbs 13:12 (KJV) Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

It causes harm to the one we promised if we fail to fulfill the promise. So, many times we might be cause heart pains to our love ones whenever we make promises to them without fulfilling.

Bro Eli Soriano advised us to rather give a surprise gift to our children than make promises we can not fulfill.

Proverbs 27:1 (KJV) Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

We should not make promises because we do not know what tomorrow will be like. We might fail in fulfilling our promise.

One of the ways to teach our children faithfulness is by keeping our promises.
