Village on the water | Reflection Hunters Contest ~ Round 164

in Shadow Hunters7 months ago (edited)

Hello, friends.
We visited this Thai village on the water during a trip along the River Kwai.

Tourism in Thailand makes a fairly significant contribution to the country's economy. Therefore, many objects are created specifically for tourists. Such objects include pseudo-traditional Thai villages on the water, where floating markets are located. One such village on the water and its floating market were artificially created in Pattaya.

But if you drive into the interior of the country, you can see real villages on the water; of course, they also exist due to tourism and are presented to foreigners as local flavor. But people still live in these villages and they have their own history; it’s just that the tourism business has breathed a second life into them.

All land in Thailand is owned by the king, and building houses in rivers on stilts has traditionally been cheaper and more practical, because the main roads were also along the rivers, and there were floating markets in the village area.

By the seventies of the twentieth century, the development of vehicles and roads led to the reduction and disappearance of floating markets.
But the development of tourism breathed a new life into the disappearing villages and floating markets. Now they have become tourist objects M are visited by foreigners who want to feel local flavor.
