Hello archi lovers!
It is possible that (almost) all Italian cities are beautiful and charming, all full of history, architecture and a lot of beauty around every place and corner. So today I share another one, it is the city of Trento, in the north of Italy, very far in the north, also very close to the Dolomite mountains and the Alps. And it looks like a fairy tale city.
It is a historical city, very famous in the past, for those who know about "the Council of Trent", that event of the Catholic religion was celebrated here, in a really important place. And this is what we discover when walking through the pleasant city of Trento: palaces, beautiful facades, mythological sculptures, churches, a beautiful cathedral and a medieval castle. And many more things, there are always more things and always magnificent details to enjoy.
We can start in the heart of the city, in the center the Piazza del Duomo, with triple wonders to contemplate, we have the city cathedral (il Duomo), the palace Pretorio (where the aforementioned historical event was celebrated, and it seems like a medieval but it could be Gothic because of the windows perhaps, I'm not sure) and the palace tower with the flag on top. A gorgeous stone environment.
A strong architectural complex with personality but also with a lot of beauty and harmony, because the icing on the cake is all in the Neptune fountain in the center of the square.
It is a beautiful square with charisma and charm, and on the side other buildings decorated with beautiful paintings, and a church with a striking colorful dome, because there is history, color, beauty and wonderful architecture, where everything forms a dream and story-like environment. It's funny how when looking around and at all its fantastic elements it reminds us of the elegance and style of other places, such as the Piazza della Signoria in Florence for example, what do you think?
[I suggest anyone who goes to that square that there is an ice cream shop right there, where you can taste a delicious Italian gelato while enjoying the impressive architectural art.]
But something also not to be missed is walking from the square or to it along a famous street that connects it with a wonderful church and much more...
Along that street we will discover a world of art on the walls and facades that is truly fascinating. It is a street in which there are successive palaces and large Renaissance houses from another time but with a lot of decoration and above all with a lot of color, because such artistic works fused into architecture have been preserved in a fairly good condition so that we can now enjoy them if we stop to look, and there are so many details, flourishes, drawings, tones, nuances... and so many facades to contemplate.
Even in what appears to be the City Hall or an official building there is an interior patio that our intoxicated curiosity wants to peek into and we find a beautiful statue as if it appeared from classical Greece, another god Neptune (statue) that meets us wherever we go. A mountain city so linked to the god of the sea. Curious. And curiously we found out that it is the original statue of the fountain that we saw before in the square, surprise, but these things happen...
But there are more statues, some in some unexpected corner, in an opening in an alley that makes up a small quiet square, a beautiful magical (water?) nymph or divine goddess surprises us. And there are also more churches and we entered some, but it is difficult to remember all the names and information, but all different and nice.
Although the most important thing we have left to see is the castle, the Castle of Buonconsiglio, which looks like a robust and imposing medieval fortress there so close to the somewhat snowy mountains that are in the background.
A castle that could have had an important role at the time, or could be if we dream... the setting of a knight's tale, but that now serves for samples or exhibitions, like a historical and very real museum.
But that is still there showing that the architecture of that time was made to last over time, and perhaps so that now in the future, now present, we could admire it as much as we do, here for example, near those impressive mountains, in the beautiful and charming city of Trent.
