Hello archi lovers!
A captivating city that always leaves us amazed, and all that historical heritage embellishes it as time passes. Florence, again, to know and admire, this time, one of the icons of the Italian city, and some more places where architecture and art intermingle in a perfect harmony of beauty created by man in its maximum splendor and that illuminates our spirit that connects with the past and history of a unique place.
Cathedral of Santa María del Fiore
There are many beautiful cathedrals in the world, but if there is a special and wonderful one (and my favorite) it is the Cathedral of Florence, it is unique for its colors, with pink and green stone combined with white.
When I approached its walls for the first time, I remember, all those years ago, I was impressed, it seemed original, different, with personality and beautiful. And I decided that it would be my favorite cathedral.
In its recognizable and stupendous façade, there are rose windows, statues and sculptures, small windows, decorated slabs, pinnacles, columns, ornate pointed lintels, frescoes, and impressive doors with engraved reliefs, etc. Without a doubt a spectacular architectural vision of a time where architects were incredible artists.
The architect Brunelleschi won the competition to build the cathedral that the Medici wanted for Florence, with a large dome that we will later see from afar with more perspective.
There is a serene but at the same time cheerful balance between the profuse decoration and the elegance and distinction. It is not sober, it is not overloaded, but it is intense and shocking, and also elegant and beautiful. Raise your eyes, and you will see your soul elevated.
Campanile di Giotto
Right next door there is another interesting construction, matching, although not the same. The facade is in other tones but the combination is good. The art of creating harmony with different elements.
And what is most striking about this baptistery are its huge and impressive engraved doors, "the doors of paradise", in gold panels, historical doors telling the history...
Basilica of Santa Maria Novella
If we move away from the most crowded area, we can walk through other streets and squares, and there is a very beloved and pleasant square presided over by a charming basilica also in a similar style but somewhat simpler.
And we saw it on a cloudy day, but also on another sunnier trip, where we could also better appreciate its characteristic painted decorative elements on its main façade. While we eat a gelato.
Galleria degli Uffizi
We can also visit museums and enjoy art not only in the open but in one of the largest and most important museums in the world. An important gallery, full of beautiful and elegant pieces like the city itself that have been accumulated in the palace after many centuries of fascinating history, where a large number of artists from different eras converged in this same charming city.
The photos are not very good, because there were a lot of people and it turned out that you couldn't take photos in many areas. So to see the best, you have to go in person.
But there is a secret, we can climb up and from the top go out and see the city, the tower of the palace itself, but in the distance the tower and the dome of the cathedral can also be seen from above on a serene Florentine afternoon.
Nothing better than a serene and beautiful sunset to say goodbye to a delightful and distinguished city. The beautiful Firenze with its charming architecture is always waiting for us.
