Today, I declared it: no shopping, no errands, no chaos. I’ve done enough this holiday season, and with the New Year presents already sorted, I decided it’s time to just be. Of course, I did feel the itch to take down the Christmas decorations (anyone else get that urge the second the 26th rolls around?), but instead, I got distracted by my cats—and honestly, they taught me a valuable lesson.
There they are, living their best lives. One is drying off on the couch after an unceremonious but necessary bath, looking slightly betrayed but ridiculously fluffy. Another is swaddled in a cozy blanket like royalty. And then there’s the one lounging lazily, stretching out with no regard for schedules or stress. They’ve got it figured out: the secret to happiness is doing nothing—but doing it in comfort.
Meanwhile, here I am, bundled in my own blanket, eyeing them with envy. Why don’t I give myself that same kind of care? Maybe instead of pulling ornaments off the tree, I should book a massage. Or better yet, a spa day. Imagine that—steam rooms, warm towels, and someone else pampering me for a change. I bet the cats would approve.
So, today is for slowing down, admiring the simple joys (like how cute they look all cozy), and maybe taking a page from their book. Relax, stretch out, and treat yourself—you’ve earned it. If they can live their best lives doing nothing, so can I.
Tomorrow? Who knows. But today is all about rest.

A Mom Taking Notes from the Cats
