From Sleepless Nights to Missing Presents: Just Another Day

in Daily Blog22 hours ago

Today was one of those days where life feels like a sitcom—and I’m the lead character who just barely makes it to the credits.

It started with another night of not-so-great sleep (thanks, anxiety and coffee-fueled evenings). But there was a silver lining: our boy made it to his destination safely, of course. Knowing he’s there and settled means I might actually get a good night’s rest for the first time in… well, weeks. Bonus: now we’re all buzzing with excitement to hear about his very American Christmas adventures.

The morning kicked off like any other: coffee, a quick bath, and the usual hustle to take my daughter to her revalidation center. We’ve been doing this twice a week for months now, and honestly, it’s become such a routine that I think my car could drive itself there. But while walking around the center, something caught my eye: the December scenery.

I mean, look at these little buds! (Pictured above.) What are they doing here? Do these plants not have a calendar? It’s December. They should be taking a break, not sprouting like spring is already RSVP’d for next week. The magnolia buds (photo 1) are teasing us like “Stay tuned, coming soon!” Meanwhile, the ivy-covered hedge (photo 2) and its fresh green leaves are just casually out here ignoring winter altogether.

Then there’s the hydrangea (photo 3), looking like it can’t decide whether to fully commit to winter or give spring a head start. And let’s not forget the thorny bush (photo 4) sprouting tiny green leaves and buds—nature’s little overachiever. Honestly, it’s both adorable and mildly confusing, but hey, at least it made my walk more interesting.

After the revalidation center, it was time for the hunt: shopping for the last few Christmas gifts. This is when the chaos really kicked in. First, I realized my printer adapter was missing. Typical. It’s probably hanging out with all the single socks and my missing chapsticks. Then, mid-shopping spree, I noticed that one of the presents I’d already bought for my daughter had vanished. Just… gone. So now, in addition to juggling wrapping paper and lists, I’m also playing detective.

But here’s the thing: it’s a day like this—messy, busy, and completely unpredictable—that reminds me what December is really about. It’s not about perfectly wrapped presents or flawless plans. It’s about the chaos, the laughs, and even the odd missing gift. And if nature can be this confused about the season, then I’m allowed to be, too.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some wrapping (and detective work) to finish. Stay festive, folks—buds in December and all!
