Diary of progressive evolution and communal changes

Pleasant greetings everyone 🙌

Change is the only constant thing and evolution proves this fact. If we take critical look at our surroudings, we will observe that things are not the same as it was some years ago. There would have been a few significant or even insignificant changes that have occurred over time.

I have lived in my present resident community for about seven years now and counting but I am not ignorant to the changes that have crept in over time. Asking questions about the community and its development has made me appreciate the progressive growth of the community.

Twenty years ago, I was told that the community residents lived in mud houses also called huts. The roads were covered in grasses with just a mini pathway for people to pass. The resident's occupation was mainly farming and anyone seeking a white collar job had to relocate to the mainland or islands for jobs.

There were not many shops as residents depended on fresh farm produce which was brought to market every four days. These farm produce were mostly perishables like fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, spinach, pumpkin leaves, fresh river fishes and the likes. They would buy them at very affordable rates then and later carry out the preservation process themselves while waiting for the next market day which would be in four days time.

Since relocating to the community and observing the trend of things from 2017 till date, I must applaud the changes that have occurred so far. For one, the residents and house owners have begun to renovate their mud house to block houses, building them in modern styles and patterns. Though there are still some uncompleted buildings, the progress is steady and evident.

Secondly, there is now a plaza built at the market site which serves as a mini mall for customers to get what they want and need without having to wait for four days. This is a welcome development as many traders seek to impress by stocking their shops with new goods that fit the current trend.

Thirdly is the road development. From the mini grassy path ways the roads have now been expanded and being worked on gradually. Previously, we were always scared whenever it is rainy season, simply because of how flooded the streets and roads would become, making transportation a hassle but now that the roads are being worked on, there is no more fear for the rains.

Next is the advent of schools which was not available twenty years back as the residents were averse to the "White man's education system". They only relied on their local religious education and their farming methods . But that story has long since changed as many investors have begun building private institutions for educational integration. The influx of people fleeing major cities due to high cost of living to this semi-rural community has also opened the eyes of the current residents to the true value of education and I'm so happy that they are open to letting their kids have a Western education.

With the introduction of electric power supply about a decade ago, smalll firms and industries have taken base within the community. This has led to job opportunities and employment of local youths and indigenes of the community. This has helped to curb the migration of available labour from the community to the mainland for job hunts.

There's even an event center for rentals during any formal or social occasion and there's also a football viewing center plus hotels for lodging if one wants a "home away from home" experience.

All in all, the growth iis progressive and I'm certain that in the nearest decade major advancement would have taken place that would help turn the community into a mega city as well.

Thank you all for reading. This is my participation for the day #26 #mayinleo initiative.

Have a great new week ahead.
