Respect the Pilar of relationship

Hello everyone Good evening and welcome to my blogs

Respect is a widowed concept that influences our behavior and relations with those around us. It is not about simple names and greetings , it is about the way we treat each other. To me, this is appreciating every human being in spite of their culture, religion, or position. It means taking the time to listen, respond to emotions and accept other opinions.

In my view, respect is a two-way street. It is a part of forming a bond of trust and encouraging interaction. When I have respect for a person, I intend to show it through my actions, words, and even my attitude towards the person. That is, time, feelings and even opinions are placed to consider. It’s about creating conditions under which every person present wants to speak up and is happy to be themselves.

Thinking about my own life, I cannot say I have always been treated well. I remember one case in particular. During college, a group I was working with had one individual who would belittle the contributions I made towards the project. The member would take jabs at me when I would attempt to give ideas or contribute. That was a hard situation; it made me doubt myself and my capabilities. In the end, I confronted the person about it. They did not apologize because they had no idea I was upset by anything they’d done. This confrontation started a conversation which made communication between us much more manageable. I found out that the cause of disrespect is however, most of the time, a simple error of judgment.

There have also been instances where I became aware that I acted in a disrespectful manner even when it was not my intention. A while back, I was involved in a very emotional conversation with some friends of mine and without being aware of it, I shouted and cut terms with the others who had a differing opinion. The minute I realized they were uncomfortable, I was filled with regret. There was a moment after that when I decided to self-criticize and apologize. This case showed me that it is better..

The experiences I’ve had over the years have taught me what respect means. It is not only about turning away from discourteousness. Inducing respect during every encounter is even more important. I work toward ensuring that such an environment is created where no one is ridiculed for their views.

Then, there is also respect for ourselves. Learning to appreciate oneself also involves learning the art of ‘No’. It helps also in stating one’s needs. Self-respect helps one to respect other persons. This clearly shows that respect is not a one-way thing. It is a two-way street.

To sum up, respect is an important pillar for any relationship. It means appreciating the other person’s heart and spirit, listening and understanding, not just hearing. The feeling of being looked down upon and the rejection of some of my actions towards others have helped me appreciate this even more. And finally, respect towards self and towards others leads to a healthier balance. Let us try to pay attention to respecting each other because, although respect is often expected, it is more of a collective duty.
