Forgive but not forget?

in HiveGhana6 months ago

Many times I have heard the phrase “forgive but don't forget” but as humans we are bound to forgetfulness. Most times we recall past memories due to an incident that triggers a similar occurrence we already had in the past.

So all of these as humans the best practices are to forgive and forget. But I repeat most times it's not always easy to forget even if the forgiveness might come with ease. The forgetfulness might be a little hard to comeby.

A scenario from the lifestyle of some couples I know well. In their early stage of life, they were such dedicated and loyal couples. But at times good people fall in the bads of bad people and vice versa. These couples started their life but under the custody of some relatives who claimed to be like a helper to them.

They did all their best to serve these people and their family, at times they even go to the extent of doing what these guys don't dare try to do. They are not slaves but they were just showing their loyalty and being submissive.

Everyone surely have their limits and when it hits the red bar, then nothing can stop them anymore. That's more of a reason why knowing people's limits is very important. These couples have been enduring all of the mess up and maltreatment these people have shown them despite their loyalty, is this how they decided to pay back?

Beyond endurance, they break free and leave those people alone. They were on their own and they lived their life. All that happened was that they had to start their life from scratch. They owned nothing. After years of submission, obedience and loyalty. It was a slap on their faces.

They grew with time, and the pain kept growing too. It was like a scar on their skin, even after it was healed it couldn’t become normal again. The mark was there.

They’ve forgiven those people for the betrayal, but i tell you, every moment of their lives when they reminisce about their past and how everything happened and changed their life, they will never forget. It keeps haunting them down till they get to share their story with somebody in exchange for peace of mind.

So in all, I see these couples forgive those people over and over again. They couldn’t forget. And why?

That's life for everyone. We are bound to witness moments of joy and happiness, then there come moments of sadness, hate, envy, betrayal, getting hurt and a lot more. But once we get a brink of joy, happiness, grace, mercy, big win, we tend to forget much about our pasts.

In conclusion

On my end, after several self-discovery about who I am and trying to understand myself, I realized I am not the type that really forgets things that quickly. But I have learned to train myself to be quick to ask for forgiveness and also remain forgiving to others as always.

That’s really a good thing to do. It’s cool that even though you find it hard to forgive, you have trained your yourself to quickly ask for forgiveness when you are wrong and also forgive others when they wrong you.
