Fertilizing Paddy Rice in Swamplands is Easier Using Soil Testing Devices

Swamp soil, especially acid sulphate soil, is potentially identical to marginal land. The main limiting factors for crop cultivation in swamp land are water management and moderate to low levels of soil fertility. In general, swamp soils have low pH, high solubility of Fe, Al, and Mn, low availability of macro (N, P, and K) and micro nutrients, and unbalanced exchangeable base cations. This obstacle can be overcome by providing soil amelioration such as lime/dolomite, as well as applying N, P and K fertilizers with reference to the right dose, method and time, so that soil productivity increases.

Determining the chemical properties of soil in the laboratory requires time and complicated equipment. To speed up the measurement of lime requirements and the availability of N, P, and K nutrients and fertilizer recommendations, the Soil Research Institute created the Swamp Soil Test Tool (PUTR) version 1.0. PUTR is a tool to determine soil acidity levels, lime requirements, and N, P, and K nutrient levels in swamp soils, especially potential acid sulfate soils with overflow types A and B, quickly in the field as well as recommendations for lime requirements, urea fertilizer, SP -36, and KCl for lowland rice plants. This device can also be used to measure and determine fertilizer doses quickly and easily in the field. The level of accuracy can be accounted for.
