Getting gifts for people can be really hectic especially when you're a third party. Last year, my sister vigorously wanted to give her partner an ideal gift. Choosing a gift is usually easier when you know the exact category your partner falls into.
If she's a female and is into classy fashion items, you are on safe grounds. If he's male and also appreciates fashion items, then giving him an ideal gift can never be so hard. It gets worse if your partner is a sports fanatic and they want something like "a football vest with Ronaldo's autograph" for their birthday. Jokes on jokes.
Lucky for my sister, she didn't have to go through all that stress but she still wanted me to join her on the birthday gift escapade. Walking into my room like a lady who just won a lottery, she tapped on my feet, took two steps backwards and started grinning. This was one of her schemes whenever she wanted me to help her do something.
"Alright, what is it?" I asked, knowing very well that she came to ask for a favour.
"I don't want to stress you or discomfort you in any way. If I'm disturbing you I can…"
"You don't have to beat around the bush Sisi, let's have it, '' I said. I was already used to her and her
schemes.
"Are you sure I shouldn't come back another time?" She asked.
I rolled my eyes and pouted. "I'm all ears".
"Okay. So, I want you to join me on a mini voyage."
"A mini voyage?" Her offer was beginning to sound enticing as I desperately wanted to leave my room. Have a change of environment.
"To the mall. My partner's birthday is fast approaching and I want you to join me. You make good choices when it comes to gifts, that's why I'm asking."
She lost me when she mentioned her partner. I learnt to stay clear from people's relationships from a colleague's experience. Even if the person was my sister.
"Uhmm, I'm not sure I can…"
"I'd buy you food, plenty of food and snacks too. Also, I'd get something really pretty for you too. Just think about it". She interrupted.
I like it whenever my sister bribes me, especially with food.
"Fine. I'd join you but, you would make the major choices because you should know your partner better than the rest of the world."
"So we have a deal? Tomorrow?"
"Sure. Tomorrow is fine.
The next day came with the speed of light and soon enough, we found ourselves in a mall. Walking from row to row in search of something that the young man would like.
I told myself that I was going to spend roughly two hours at the mall but there I was, three hours and thirty-five minutes later, still searching. I started to get really fatigued. Left to me, we would have ended this shopping spree three hours ago because I saw a gift l thought would be perfect for the male gender but hey, I wasn't making the major decisions.
Four hours later, my sister found the perfect set of gifts for her partner and we could finally move on to the main reason why I left the comfort of my bed in the first place–food. We dined till our fill before returning home. As you would imagine, this was my favourite part of the whole voyage.
A few days later was the birthday and the news that reached me was that the celebrant loved the gift. Of course he did.
