W. E#206 ~` Funny Way I Hurt Myself

in Weekend Experiences2 months ago

As a young child, I knew just how troublesome I was from the way my parents always screamed my name whenever I did something bad and though being the first daughter came with its responsibilities but that didn't stop me from playing even when my parents tried as much as possible to restrict the way I play but then I always find a way to still get my dose of fun.

When we moved to our own home which has a rural scenery, at first I must say I wasn't all that happy because we moved in from town but then as time went by, I fell in love with the nature-filled environment. Lots of things to see and love and I sure have a lot of time enjoying myself.

But then an environment like that is also filled with some hazards that if one is not careful, will get us in trouble. What with snakes, scorpions, and other insects? Though we don't have them close to us since we cleared our compound and made it safe as possible but despite all that, as children we love to go look for trouble even when trouble just wanted to be left alone.

I could remember vividly that one of the things I love doing most with other boys around is to climb trees much you my mom's disapproval. She does warn me that I am a girl and climbing trees is not "lady-like", yeah right, as if she didn't do that when she was younger herself😄😄😄

There were lots of trees all around us which is one of the things I enjoy most about our surroundings because we mostly come out to receive fresh air and the smell of all those trees does wonders to my mind.

Though I sometimes hurt myself having little cuts here and there. For instance, I could decide to use my hand to cut out sharp weeds and end up getting a cut, I sometimes do something silly as putting a stick in the fire and putting the smoked part of it on the back of my hands, thinking I could make a pointed tattoo and many more. Some of these silly things do earn me a little bit of scolding from my parents but whenever they think I had learned my lessons, I do think of something else to do to have fun.

The worst I did which helped restrain me a bit was a day I climbed a mango tree. We the children around had been eyeing one particular mango fruit which was at the top-most of the tree and while we had plucked all the fruits on the lower branches we were left with the ones at the top and it looked so ripe and juicy.

Mostly we do use sticks to pluck them but then that day I was in the mood for tree climbing and off I went even when my companion who was a young boy in my area tried warning me off. I paid no heed to him and kept climbing. It got to a part where I knew I shouldn't go on because the branches there were very tiny and isn't strong enough to support my weight but then I thought I could "do it" and kept going on till I lost my balance and thud, I didn't know what happened but I knew I saw stars 😃😃😃 and before realization dawned on me, I was laying flat on the ground.

It was a good thing I didn't break any bone but I had a huge cut on my leg from a sharp object on the ground and there was just little blood. Before I knew what was happening my mom appeared before me. The boy had gone to "snitch" on me and I knew I was in a lot of trouble of course, after my mum took care of my leg, I got the beating I deserved. Ever since, I reduced the way I always go tree climbing, not that I will stop it all together, Haha.

Thank you for stopping by.

Trust Nigerian mothers, once they have warned you not to do something and you do it, even if you get hurt in the process, you will still be beaten for disobeying them 😂
Children want to explore and do silly things, so they'd do anything to try out even when they are pre-warned already.

These memories are fun. The silly things we did as a child are what makes our childhood more beautiful each time we remember them.
