Why do you make a good friend? Explain with examples.
I have a feeling that this post might turn out to be one of those self bragging and self praising posts, but I promise I will try to be as objective as I can!
I am a good listener.
Being an introvert, I listen more than I talk. This means I am able to offer a listening ear if any of my friends need someone to talk to. I generally don't judge people, so that means it's okay to share problems and issues with me. I can keep secrets well too, because I seldom talk (and I don't have a big social circle).
I am good at math.
I know what you must be thinking - how is this a relevant trait to be a good friend? Throughout my life, my parents and my friends have often used me as a calculator when they go out shopping. These days, even though there's the calculator function in our phones, sometimes it's just easier to ask me to count. It gets more frequent during overseas trips, because my friends would need to convert the prices in foreign currencies back to their local currencies.
And it's not just being a calculator. Math actually extends to many aspects of our lives. One aspect is finances and investments. As I personally do investments on my own, friends have sought my advice from investments to insurance policies. Even though I am not a qualified professional, I play a useful role because my friends would usually consult me from a second opinion perspective to see if my view is consistent with what their financial advisors or planners tell them.
I am responsible.
My friends know they can rely on me in times of need. When I say I will do something, I will make sure I do it. I think the sense of responsibility in me is stronger than the average person, but I sometimes recognise that this is a double edged sword, in the sense that people might abuse my sense of responsibility and "bully" me, by asking me to do more favours etc. But that's another story for another day. Hehe.
I am a straightforward person.
Once again, this trait is another one of those which has its own pros and cons as well. I think I am a very straightforward person, I call a spade a spade. There are people who value this personality of mine because they appreciate my frankness and honesty, even if it means having to hear things that they might not like.
But like I said, there are occasions where one needs to be a little more indirect, or some might say more cunning, and I am bad at that because I don't associate myself with these behaviours. This also means I am not a romantic person because I don't believe in all those figurative niceties.
Alright, I think I have shared enough of how I am as a friend.
