The Celebrations and The Tears, A Weekend With Mixed Emotions

in Weekend Experiences7 months ago

Every day of our lives comes with its unique events and happenings. Some of the things that happen around us can not be controlled by us. We just have to live with whatever happens if we have no power to change them.

Saturday, 18th and Sunday, 19th of May played an interesting script around me and some of my friends. It was actually a weekend with mixed emotions and feelings. The expected came to be as proposed but then the unexpected surfaced and automatically disfigured the entire setting.

The Celebration We Anticipated

One of my friends had a marriage ceremony the previous week in a neighboring state. The groom was our own. So we went to Kogi State to bring the beautiful lady. (Kogi State is a neighbouring state to Kwara State, all in Nigeria.) The ceremony has been planned for some months to that time. We were all full of excitement and happiness in anticipation of the day of the marriage. Then the D-Day came and the marriage was done. We who are from Ilorin, Kwara State were anxious to receive our new bride. Sunday, 19th May was the day we were waiting to host a reception for our new couple. Then something happened.

The Tears

We were all preparing to celebrate our friend and brother who had brought a new wife. Those who could afford it had bought new dresses. Musical instruments were arrayed to make our day joyful.

Sadly, on Saturday, the 18th of May something pathetic happened. One of the key families who were deeply involved in organizing the marriage reception lost someone very dear to them. What a tragedy! In the midst of our joy, tears began to flow.

The atmosphere changed. Pains and mourning instead of joy and happiness. What could humans possibly do. Nature is unpredictable. Those of us who could still manage to come out came and celebrated with the couple. Our friends in the affected family couldn't make it. We wished the soul of the departed peace and rest.

Many times, when we lay out our plans, we do not know what the controller of the universe will allow. Let us rejoice when we are blessed with joy. And if we are allowed to mourn, let's take it in good faith.
