Mens Sana In Corpore Sana
It has been a few weeks - twice if I'm not wrong - since my last participation in the contest organised by @galenkp, which I discovered, among others, thanks to @p1k4ppa10 - and to which I cannot help but dedicate a thought every time I participate in the #WeekendEngagement.
This week's topic asks whether the weekend is an opportunity for us to be active or to jump on the couch and get some rest.
Are you physically active on the weekend or do you prefer a sedentary weekend lifestyle?
As far as I'm concerned, the answer is quickly said: since during the week I find myself stuck on a chair for about 7-8 hours a day, the weekend is for me a crucial moment in which to try to be as active as possible.
Taking up the title of this post, mens sana in corpore sana, it's not possible to feel good psychologically if we don't also take care of our body and, unfortunately, sitting is not among the activities that are good for us - darn evolution!
Therefore, since the most I can do during the week is to work out at home a couple of times - and I often have zero desire to do it, because I'm tired, it's late and I just want to fall into bed - the weekend necessarily becomes the time for walking, moving and being more active.
Obviously part of me doesn't want to do anything at all or at most just watch a series or read a book, but from my experience I know that once I put this laziness aside, if I go out with my girlfriend and we go for a walk or an excursion, afterwards I am always happy, I feel better and I know I have done something healthy for my body.
Something that many people also unfortunately underestimate is the importance of our body's health when performing 'mental' activities: not only working, but also pursuing our passions, such as gaming or writing posts on Hive, is deeply influenced by our body's health.
If our lower back hurts, our eyesight drops or, more broadly speaking, sitting causes us discomfort, even playing a video game can become a nightmare.
Not only that: a healthy body also increases our performance! It is no coincidence that the training programmes of eSports professionals always include physical training sessions.
Our minds cannot reach their full potential if our bodies suffer.
So taking advantage of the weekend even just to go for a walk can be a great start to improve our lives and also our performance in activities we wouldn't imagine :)
