AI uses too much energy, some want it banned for the normal people…

AI is an enemy of the environment

Asking a question on ChatGPT costs 25 times as much electricity to generate an answer than just searching something on Google or Wikipedia.
Not a big surprise for me, but here in Belgium the politicians find it interesting enough to have a debate about it. Some even want it banned for normal people, at least the free versions.

They see Artificial Intelligence as an enemy for the government and “climate”.

3,5 percent of world’s energy production

According to calculations by a think thank, AI would use up 3,5 % of the world’s energy production by 2030, which would be twice the energy demand of France.

It seems that the green lobby has found another enemy to react to and to try to ban, after crypto currency.

But what they forgot in their calculation, is that AI will become a very important pertner in solving those world problems. So, in no way should AI only be reserved for the elite. Anyone should be able to use the magic of Artificial Intelligence!

Sincerely,

Maybe it's a tactic to prevent the widespread use of AI, especially for everyday people. Hopefully, it will just be noise, like previous debates on previous topics.
