For US residents, it can be a challenge to buy Hive since no US exchange currently supports it. For everyone else, it's not an issue since there are quite a few exchanges that support it.
Simple Swap
When I first got started on Hive, @geneeverett from #silvergoldstackers turned me on to Simple Swap. Their service lets you create an exchange where you can swap one cryptocurrency for another for a small fee. As the discussion progressed, @dbooster mentioned buying Litecoin and swapping to Hive that way since there are no fees for sending LTC.

Swapping LTC to Hive
I typically use Coinbase to buy the LTC, set up an exchange from LTC to Hive using Simple Swap, put in the address for sending LTC and my address for receiving Hive, and it's worked well. That is, it worked well until yesterday.
My Goof
When finishing creating the exchange to swap $100 worth of LTC for Hive, I overlooked that I left off the "s" in my name. 🤦♂️
There is no such Hive user as "bulliontool," or at least there wasn't until Gene helped me. When I noticed my mistake, I emailed Simple Swap support, and they started working on it.
Asking for Help from SGS
In the meantime, I had also asked for advice from more seasoned members of #silvergoldstackers to try and help me recover the Hive seemingly stuck in limbo. Gene had mentioned he had this issue before when he accidentally sent LEO to an account that didn't exist.
The Solution
It was late at this point in the disussion, so I went to bed after Simple Swap support assured me they'd have it fixed within 4-5 hours.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to me, Gene took the initiative to help me out and experiment. It cost 6 Hive to do it, and he created the username bulliontool that previously did not exist. Within a couple of hours, he said the funds were deposited, and he had sent the funds back to me.
He didn't ask for anything in return and simply messaged me in the SGS Discord to let me know what he had done. It was a long shot, and it worked! So if you send your Hive Engine tokens or Hive to an account that doesn't exist, you may still be able to save it by creating that account yourself, since about 11-12 hours had passed since I initiated the exchange and the funds were deposited and returned to me by Gene.
I'm grateful for Gene and many others I've met along the way here in Hive. There are so many awesome, selfless people on here! Hopefully my goof never happens to you, but if it does there may still be hope!
