I remember sitting in front of the TV on a snowy evening when I was very young, waiting to see if the school would be canceled for the next day.
**Hearing you have a snow day will bring a smile to a child's face.

I remember how fun it was to forget about school for a bonus day and stay at home with my sisters.
We would play outside in the newly fallen snow, making snow angels, building a snowman, or having a snowball fight.
If we were lucky, my older sister would bake some cookies and make hot chocolate, which was very welcome after being outside in the cold. The rest of the day we would lay around and watch cartoons until my parents came home.
But then, something happened.
As I got older and was out of school, snow days became a distant memory.
I grew up in northern Ohio, by Lake Erie. The area we lived in was known as the Snow Belt
Heavy snow was a very common occurrence in the winter. However, we did have a very effective road department skilled in snow plowing and salting the roads. Within hours of a snowstorm, the roads were cleared and passable.
Fast forward thirty years.
For various reasons, we ended up moving to Tennessee, right outside of Nashville.
One primary reason was that both of my daughters wound up in Tennessee, and we did not want to be long-distance grandparents.
It does not snow very often in Tennessee but when it does, the area is shut down. They do not have the infrastructure to manage snow the way Ohio did, but rightfully so, as it just does not snow often.
Snow days are BACK!
So now, in my sixties, I have snow days again, but how times have changed.
My snow days now are not filled with activities as it was as a child; rather, I am now working remotely.
Technology has advanced us to the point where I can see and hear my patients while sitting at my dining room table on my work laptop computer.
Don't get me wrong, I embrace technology and love how it makes my medical practice more efficient, but it would be nice to have a lazy snow day again.
