The recent release in cinemas, “Diabolik, Who Are You?” is the last of a trilogy directed by the Manetti Bros., which serves as a tribute to the original famous comic book. Watching it, one immediately understands that this trilogy, although it concerns action films, is very far from American action blockbusters, which are rich in special effects, adrenaline-pumping scenes, buffed actors, and fast dynamics.
In fact, the film appears to us to be somewhat bare, minimalist, and slow;
this is because The filmmakers have chosen to remain faithful to the
comics, while strictly maintaining and preserving the atmosphere of the historical context.
Thus, watching these 3 films, we find ourselves catapulted into the 1960s: the objects and furnishings used in the film were carefully selected to reflect the design and aesthetics of the 1960s; attention to detail was a priority for the Manetti Bros. directors, who carefully recreated the atmosphere of those years.
The cars, the clothing, the accessories, the hairstyles, everything is true to the 1960s to such an extent that even the air we breathe feels the same......
These elements contribute to an authentic setting that I personally really appreciate even if it all comes at the expense of the action as I understand it.
Ultimately, the decision to stay true to the comic book in a film adaptation is a very brave creative choice that can have a significant impact, even one that can be criticized but can leave the viewer positively impressed.
