To improve my fitness, I had previously set a goal to clock an average of 8,000 steps on a daily basis for 2023. To put the numbers in perspective, my average step count for 2022 was about 4,656 steps.
2023 has completed and I thought I would share my progress and reflect on my journey thus far.
The Numbers
First up, December was an awesome month in terms of step count. Even though I know it was almost mathematically impossible to achieve my target given the number of the days left in the day, I was not going to let this affect my habit of being more active.
Ultimately, I clocked in a daily average of 8,888 steps for December, which was the 2nd highest month in 2023. As for the overall average, it increased from 7,209 to 7,373 steps, and as expected I fell short of my 8,000 step count target.
Considering my daily step count for 2022 was 4,656 steps, that's a 58% increase or improvement!

Walking To A Better 2023 Indeed
I would share bits about my life along this journey of Walking To A Better 2023, and this month is no different.
Ever since I set this target at the end of 2022, I have kept tabs on my steps on a monthly basis for the entire 2023, and I have done 12 posts on this initiative (including this one), which I have coined it as "Walking To A Better 2023".
Even though I didn't achieve my target, I was 92% (7,373/8,000) there and I am pretty satisfied for this personal achievement. The journey was not without challenges, as I had shared on and off in the previous posts, with the major ones being having knee pain which I had to undergo physiotherapy, squeezing in time to exercise even during busy periods of my life and work, and being affected with weather conditions such as the haze and rainy days. But it's part and parcel of life, we embrace these challenges and find ways to overcome them.
All in all, it has been great fun, both clocking the steps and also sharing my journey on Hive. Thanks to those who have been providing all the encouragement - you know who you are - and that's the magical part of social network. We cheer for one another and strive to become a better version of ourselves. So definitely, I have walked to a better 2023 indeed!
P.S. Will I have something up for 2024? Am still thinking about it. Hehe!
