Located in a deep valley in the Swiss Alps and surrounded by beautiful rocky cliffs and mountains, the Swiss village of Lauterbrunnen is one of the most charming villages in Switzerland among tourists. Not only do people worldwide come to visit this village, but this is also the must-visit spot among all the Indians. Why Indians!! Well, long story short, Switzerland is the dreamy destination among the Indians because of Bollywood movies. Several Bollywood movies and films were shot here and went viral among the Indians. Bollywood Romance means Switzerland that's most Indian beliefs. To be honest, even though I am not an Indian, I came to know about Switzerland by watching Bollywood films and that's how I got introduced to Swiss natural beauty.
We stayed at Brienz, and Lauterbrunnen took around 40 minutes to drive from there. In fact, it was compulsory to visit Lauterbrunnen, particularly because my sister wanted to visit this place. She had been ringing the bell of Lauterbrunnen in her mind for years, so this place became the priority on the list. With her leading the way with excitement, we could not miss a chance to explore this beautiful valley. It was all of this that built a kind of anticipation as we drove through the scenic route, knowing we were going to the place she had always wanted to go.
The tour to Lauterbrunnen was a highly anticipated trip and the beauty of Lauterbrunnen village didn't disappoint us at all. Rocky cliffs, mountains, Staubbach Falls, wildflowers, and wooden chalets give this place a sense of peace and tranquility. Located south of Interlaken, this valley is known for 72 waterfalls. Among all the waterfalls, Staubbach Falls is the famous one which you gonna see in the photos. We went there early so we had plenty of time to walk around.
The place is more beautiful than the photos, I always say the photos don't do justice to the beauty and astounding panoramic scenery of Lauterbrunnen.
Being almost 300 meters, this iconic waterfall (Staubbach Falls) cascades down a towering cliff, nearly 1,000 feet, therefore joining the ranks of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe. It's quite fascinating to see the falling water down a sheer rock face, tapers upward, and appears to float like mist well before it reaches the valley floor. A lot of tourists were there trying to take desired photos of the waterfall. I was far away from the waterfall yet I felt the soft mist from the waterfall.
This waterfall is visible from the village of Lauterbrunnen and only enhances the beautiful scenery of the area. The name "Staubbach" in translation means "dust stream," and on windy days that can perfectly describe what the waterfall looks like because it appears to disintegrate into fine mist even before it hits the ground. Truly amazing panoramic view I enjoyed while being there.
There was a trail near the waterfall for visitors who wanted to take a closer look at the waterfall. I followed the trail but didn't go further instead I took a walk near the waterfall area and took tons of photos.
The sight underneath the falls, with lush green meadows and dramatic cliffs surrounding the Lauterbrunnen Valley, is truly breathtaking, and cannot be expressed through words only.
After taking photos near and with the waterfall, we started strolling around. We followed some small walkways near the waterfall area to go near the Lütschine River and The village area.
We also found a few small restaurants and wooden cottages here. Most of the wooden cottages were basically holiday homes. We had to cross a cemetery before going to the riverside area and we paid our respect and prayers before moving forward.
And of course, I couldn't ignore these beautiful sheep grazing in the green meadow wearing cowbells. I don't know but I just love this beautiful moment and scenery in Switzerland; I just can't get enough. Watching cows or sheep grazing in the plush, thick, green meadows dotted with yellow wildflowers is quite a serene and mesmerizing experience. It's like those picture-postcard moments, beckoning one to come in and keeping the time slow.
Some simple beauty of animals in nature, with such an environment around them, practically attains a surreal quality. I can well sit there for hours, just watching them quietly nibble at the grass, absolutely enthralled with the tranquility of the time. It's one of those experiences that makes me appreciate the quiet, peaceful side of life that's so far removed from the rush of everyday living.
Soon we came to the Lütschine riverside area and then suddenly we decided to go close to the river. Obviously the current and the flow of the river was strong but we found some big stones to sit for photographs. The cover photo of this post actually represents that place. We were scared a little bit but we chose to take some photos and came back to a safe area quickly.
We crossed the bridge and took a long walk near the village area.
I am sure thousands of photos won't be enough to express the natural beauty of this location. Even though there were tourists, I didn't feel crowded as people were scattered and found their desired spots to walk around.
This is one of those places where you learn to appreciate your life and the creation of the world.
Each and every perspective of the location was breathtaking.
Soon we heard the roaring sound of the cloud so we knew the rain was coming. We decided to go back to the parking area but on our way, heavy rain started pouring. Well, when you are in the mountain area, you always need to be prepared for the rain. Our next destination was waiting for us but before that, I needed to buy a fresh new raincoat...
