Good day community

The division of the two Castiles led me to the city of Salamanca, capital of the province and located in the autonomous region of Castile and Leon in the northern part of the country. When I arrived there I asked people from the place where that name came from and they informed me that possibly its first settlements were from the Celtic peoples who since their arrival to the Iberian Peninsula were settling from the lands of the northwest, Galicia to the south of the province of Badajoz in Extremadura. A god that the Celts worshipped since ancient times seems to have given it its name "Helman" in those first settlements, which seems to come from a Germanic goddess of worship of the dark and the underworld. Later with Romanization it was called "Helmantiké" which over time would remain in Salamanca. This town is located on the banks of the Tormes River, a tributary of one of the main rivers of Spain, the Duero. In a fairly flat area of this Castile, it occupies a privileged place for all the cultures that have passed through and made history in it. Throughout the world it has several sister cities with the same name, the United States, Mexico or Venezuela that also adopt the name of Salamanca.

The special character of this beautiful city is reflected in its avenues and streets that gradually introduce us to another time. The unique and peculiar architecture, as well as being historical, was recently used to film movies and series, the most popular being Game of Thrones, but many others have used its urban landscape for filming. I headed towards its historic centre and towards one of the most beautiful squares I know and, after wandering through old buildings, palaces and churches, I found it. That day there was a medieval festival in the city and I had the opportunity to see those characters in period costumes that transported me to those times. Life in the square was truly bustling and the terraces and cafés invited people to sit down, chat, have a coffee and enjoy this unique urban landscape.

Continuing the route took me to the area of the cathedral and there I was informed that there were two in the city, which surprised me. The cathedral loomed with its main tower in some of these streets which I then walked along observing different points of view of this architectural marvel. At this point the city showed me its old core and expanded its more Castilian aspect and the bustle and life could be noticed in each street I decided to follow. Through one of these streets I arrived at the heart of the University, one of the oldest and most prestigious on the European continent. Its façade and interior courtyards left me speechless and my camera took these beautiful images that reflect very well the essence of these old buildings.
