Parque del Chicó, Bogotá, Diciembre 2024

Hello Hivers and world travelers! Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it!

After a day of Christmas relaxing with my family, this morning my son and I went for a walk in one of the parks that I like the most in Bogotá. It's a few blocks away from the place where we are staying, the Parque del Chicó.

It is next to the Chicó Museum and is a green oasis in the middle of a residential area of the city. The park is located between Carreras 7 and 9 on Calle 93. Its perimeter is closed unlike many other parks in Bogotá and has private security, so it is a park where you feel very safe, perfect to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city.

ParqueElChico_26122024_2.jpg

One of the things that has surprised me about Bogotá at this time of the year is that at least in the northern part of the city where we are staying there is very little Christmas decoration in the streets, parks and squares.

ParqueElChico_26122024_1.jpg

In the Chicó Park the only reference to Christmas we found was a small nativity scene with clay figures that we saw as we entered the park.

ParqueElChico_26122024_4.jpg

This morning the park was almost empty, there were very few people, so with the park to ourselves we decided to enjoy a bit of nature. My boy decided to sit in the fresh air and listen to some music.

ParqueElChico_26122024_5.jpg

While I wanted to explore the park, but not before taking some pictures for the hubby who could not join us because he had to work on the project that has us these days in Bogotá.

So with the park almost all to myself, I explored it a bit and took some pictures.

ParqueElChico_26122024_11.jpg

The park and the colonial house where the museum is located is a private donation to the city of Mercedes Sierra de Pérez, so the park and museum also bear his name although they are popularly known as Park and Museum del Chicó which is the residential area where it is located.

ParqueElChico_26122024_12.jpg

One of the things I love about this place is the contrast between urban and nature that can be seen, as the park is surrounded by some cool residential buildings.

ParqueElChico_26122024_6.jpg

There is a small pond, around which there are several geese.

ParqueElChico_26122024_8.jpg

ParqueElChico_26122024_7.jpg

Geese are not usually quiet but these ones were especially noisy today. It's like they have a sensor and as soon as you get halfway close they start squawking.

ParqueElChico_26122024_13.jpg

I love the amount of flowers in this park. And when I approached to photograph these near the fence next to the pond. I noticed that on the adjoining stone wall there was a small gate that leads to the area of the park that is within the grounds of the Museum and it was open.

ParqueElChico_26122024_14.jpg

So I crossed over to the side of the park that is part of the exterior of the Museum's mansion.

ParqueElChico_26122024_15.jpg

From there there is a better view of the pond and I could see a couple of geese on the central islet taking a nap. Can you see them?

ParqueElChico_26122024_16.jpg

ParqueElChico_26122024_17.jpg

On this side of the park there were more beautiful flowers.

ParqueElChico_26122024_18.jpg

A view of the north access to the park which I understand is not open to the public.

ParqueElChico_26122024_19.jpg

Another pond on the outside of the museum. Which looks better maintained than the one with the geese.

ParqueElChico_26122024_20.jpg

After exploring the museum side of the park for a bit, through the same small gate I had crossed I returned to the main side of the park to meet my son.

ParqueElChico_26122024_21.jpg

There were signs that at any moment it would start raining but before we left my son insisted that I let him take me a few laps on an old merry go round, hehe.

ParqueElChico_26122024_yo1.jpg

ParqueElChico_26122024_yo2.jpg

In the middle of the fun, while I was laughing like a little girl, the first raindrops began to fall. So we hurried to leave the park and on the way out I took this picture of the house that houses Chicó Museum that this time we could not visit, but if you are curious you will find the review of a previous visit in A visit to Chicó Park and Museum.

ParqueElChico_26122024_22.jpg

that this is how the rain is in Bogota, it catches you by surprise in a few minutes but this time we were not prepared, we had neither umbrellas nor our rain jackets, so we had no choice but to take shelter from the rain and for that we ran to an ice cream shop on the way to our accommodation.

AffogatoPercimon_26122024.jpg

There we patiently waited for the rain to subside while we enjoyed an affogato of almond ice cream. But nothing prevented us from arriving back at the apartment drenched in rain.😅

A visit to Chicó Park and Museum.

It seems quite strange how different the weather is to Venezuela when you are neighbours.
What a great park and the honking geese are brilliant. They are noisy things, you know the whisky bonding warehouses would use them as guardgeese!
Great to see you so happy and look how grow up Rorro is now, and he really has your curls!
Merry Christmas Super Eli and I hope you had a fun time and will have a wonderful Hogmanay and New Year 💙

It seems quite strange how different the weather is to Venezuela when you are neighbours.

Actually we have similar weather depending on the region of the country you compare. In Bogota is more similar to the Andean region of Venezuela, a mountainous area, although in Bogota it rains more jeje.
Caracas on the other hand is a valley and is closer to the coast. And the weather is like the one in Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia.

I love that about having guardian geese 😆

I'm so happy to have my boy with me for a few weeks. It's my best Christmas present :)

The Hogmanay ... I remember you have written about the new year's celebration in Scotland and that the first person to enter the house brings luck or something like that. Am I right?
Have a great Hogmanay and Happy New Year, Super Ed! 💙

It's great to see you enjoying your stay in Bogota and this time with your son :) It must be fun riding on the merry-go-round 😍 but it's a shame the rain came early.

The merry-go-round was super fun, it's been decades since I've ridden one! LOL
Cheers, sis 🤗😘

I bet it is! My last ride was 8 or 9 years ago, lol!

Such a nice stroll after the Christmas.
Btw, Merry Christmas to you and your family, Eli.
Still eating ice cream despite of the weather? Haha.

Merry Christmas, Jane!!!
I hope you had a beautiful Christmas with your family.
Well, the ice cream was drizzled with espresso, so it wasn't too cold for the weather, hehe.
Best wishes to you and your family for the new year. May your plans come true. Hugs!

Hello @coquicoin friend!... Beautiful place to spend some time and take some pictures!... Lovely article!... Sending my best wishes to you and your family this holiday season and lots of blessings!...

What a lovely green 'oasis' in the city Eli! It's so nice to see you looking so happy with your son😍 Never too old to have fun on the merry-go-round!
The weather sounds like ours here, the sun will be out one minute but soon gets replaced by dark clouds and a downpour.
Enjoy special times with your son, Eli💞

These days with my son are my best Christmas gift 💞
Thank you, Lizzie 🤗

What a fun stroll around the park. The geese may think you bring food for them 😁. And the merry go round could be merrier if not of the rain 😁.

Maybe you are right and the geese were claiming to me that I didn't give them anything to eat 😆

Merry xmas and a wonderful new year

Felices fiestas y muchos saludos!! 🤗

What a lovely park to visit in the city. The park looks so quiet. It's interesting that there's not much Christmas decoration everywhere. Still, it's a beautiful place for a walk. Glad you were able to take shelter at a shop when it started raining. An advance happy new year...
