A ride on the L in Chicago's Loop [ENG-SP]

in Worldmappin6 months ago

We had been in Chicago for a couple of days and for one reason or another we had not ridden the metro, known as L, we had used the commuter rail system, of which I will talk about another time, and otherwise we had moved on foot and in Uber. But we had on the list of must-do in the city, a ride on the L in the Loop area where it goes on the surface and moves between buildings. Surely this is an image you have seen more than once in some of the movies filmed in the Windy City.

So on the morning of our third day in the city, we walked a few blocks from our hotel to Chicago Avenue to catch the L.

ChicagoLRide_1.jpg

We headed to one L station on the brown line which is located on that avenue. We got on the platform and realized that we were in the wrong direction, fortunately, we realized it when we got to the platform. On that platform, the train was going northbound and we wanted to go to the Loop which was south of our location.

ChicagoLRide_2.jpg

So we went down to the Avenue and crossed under the structure where the train tracks go to the other side. To go up to the platform in the direction of the Loop.

But first, we found this engraving on the sidewalk with the name of Chicago, so we had to take a picture.

ChicagoLRide_3.jpg

When we arrived at the platform the northbound train was leaving the station.

ChicagoLRide_4.jpg

Of course, I had to have my picture taken with the Loop address sign.

ChicagoLRide_6.jpg

More pictures of the platform and one of the streets between the buildings which could be seen from there. Like those that usually appear in some movie chases with those external stairs in the buildings that the protagonists use to escape from the villains that stalk them. 😆

We didn't wait long and our train arrived.

ChicagoLRide_8.jpg

So we sat strategically close to the windows to enjoy the ride.

ChicagoLRide_9.jpg

And admire the views of the city that we could make out between the buildings as the L moved on.

I haven't said it before but the Chicago metro is known as L because it's short for elevated which is how some sections of the metro go especially in this part of the city.

Look at the number of rails and how they intersect in this pic.

ChicagoLRide_12.jpg

And views and more views of the Chicago Loop streets.

ChicagoLRide_15.jpg

The cars on the brown line seemed very clean to me, not so on other lines. And I got the impression that this line is not very crowded, at least in this section of the Loop, as if it is something that has been left for those who visit the city. It was mid-morning and in our car there were only a couple of people besides us.

ChicagoLRide_14.jpg

The train on the brown line goes around the loop and then back uptown. We had originally planned to do the loop and get off again at Chicago Ave. to continue with our plans for the day. The husband had a lunch with people from the festival he was attending and I had arranged to meet my son for lunch. But it was still early and we could explore a little more, so we decided to get off a couple of stations early.

We got off at Clark/Lake station.

We had the idea of going for a walk along the Riverwalk, which we had not yet walked. But I'll tell you about that another time ;)

Thanks for reading!

No esperamos mucho y llegó nuestro tren.

Very cool I've passed through Chicago a few times but a very long time ago. I really appreciate all the tracks and city trains you have shown. Hey your nearing my locale I'm about 7 hours by car to the east, hehe.

Hehe, well I'm a little further away now because we are back home.
Thank you very much for stopping by :)

This is similar to LRT in our country.. but I guess it's more convenient there hehe

Why is it more convenient? What do you mean?

It seems that the train lines pass through the whole city, no? Too many of them. It's a fast mode of transportation, although I imagine it's not used much anymore.

It must be a very nice city, enjoy your visit.

Actually this train it is used a lot to move around the city, only this section that passes through the center and goes between the buildings seems not so much. Here the train makes a loop, it goes around and arrives at the same point. And the walking distances are close, so it may be more practical to walk from one side to the other in this section of the city. But it's nice to ride it at least once.
Happy Sunday and happy mothers day 🤗
