Hi,
This past weekend I visited a small town in the west of Asturias, in the north of Spain, on the occasion of a motorcycle and classic truck rally.
But before going to the village of La Caridad, where this festive motor event was taking place, I was enjoying a walk near the impressive cliffs that are about 2 km from this town.
I was also enjoying the sun on a small pebble beach which is quite popular in the area. Although this popularity is greatest in the summer months.
After the walk along the cliffs I went to the charity at about 6 pm, as it was the time marked in the agenda of events for a motorbike exhibition by a talent of acrobatics on 2 and 4 wheels as Paulo Martinho.
Daytime Exhibition
Quad
Due to parking problems near the exhibition area, I arrived a little late for Martinho's first exhibition, but despite missing the first 10 minutes I was able to enjoy the remaining 50 minutes of the exhibition.
During the exhibition I was very impressed with his handling of a very powerful quad bike with which he did all kinds of tricks. Like wheel lifts, drifts and slalom manoeuvres along the area reserved in the centre of La Caridad for the show.
One of the highlights of the quad was his condition when he was sitting on the handlebars and in reverse gear.
Motorbike
However, the best tricks performed by Martinho were when he took control of his spectacular motorbike and performed several acrobatics by lifting the front wheel and also the rear wheel.
Accompanying these stunts, Martiño performed several extreme drifts at the limits of the track reserved for the show and some of them in positions as striking as the one in which he was literally sitting on the handlebars of the bike.
As you could not miss, in this type of show, the burning of rubber on the asphalt with several cuts of the engine due to the high revolutions could not be missing.
But the ecstasy came when he activated on his bike the option of pouring a solvent and causing a trail of fire wherever he went.
With the ultimate goal of literally bursting the tyre.
Motorbike to do somersaults
What does a circular support on the top of a motorbike do?
Well, it is a support to be able to do somersaults with the motorbike.
Spectacular the turns of the motorbike and the way it was able to brake right in front of the public.
Visit to the classic truck exhibition
Apart from the motorcycle rally and Martinho's shows, one of the attractions of the motorcycle rally is the organisation of an exhibition of classic trucks.
When you see these trucks, which are more than 40-60 years old and perfectly maintained, you travel back to your childhood, to the time when these small trucks were in reality the big trucks of the 80‘s and 90’s in Spain.
The one I liked most of all was this blue and orange model, more than 50 years old and whose mechanics were in perfect condition.
Wines and dinner
Before continuing our visit to the motorcycle rally and to be able to attend Martiño's nocturnal exhibition, my friends and I went for a few wines and finally had dinner in a small restaurant in La Caridad called Mesón Sayane.
In this small place, which one of my friends knew very well, we were able to enjoy a variety of tapas of pork tripe, squid and some sausage.
Night visit
After dinner and while we were waiting for Martiño's exhibition, we went for a walk around the centre of La Caridad to see the different motorbikes exhibited by their owners.
As it was dinner time and prior to the exhibition, many bikers were with their bikes eating in other nearby towns and therefore there were not many bikes.
Night Show
The night show was broadly identical to the daytime show in terms of the tricks performed with the quad, the modified bike for backflips and the conventional bike.
The most striking feature of the night show was, on the one hand, the use of more fire in the show, both in the stunts performed with the quad and the motorbike.
And also in an exhibition with a Mini totally modified in terms of power that caused an infernal sound when it reached maximum revs to cause some impressive drifts.
After the exhibition, and due to my tiredness, I went home satisfied with an evening full of engine, smoke, fire and freestyle.
Cheers.
